The Church of Nossa Senhora do Socorro or Church of São Tiago Menor, classified as a Monument of Public Interest, was born in Madeira after a vote made in 1523 by the population of Funchal due to an outbreak of the plague. The Church of Nossa Senhora do Socorro was later demolished and rebuilt in 1768, displaying, on its facade, the greatest marks of baroque style existing in Funchal and throughout Madeira Island.
