Life and work
José Régio, the literary pseudonym of José Maria dos Reis Pereira, was, in fact, one of the contemporary poets who had the greatest success among people, even those less knowledgeable about poetry. He was born on September 17, 1901, in Vila do Conde and died in the same city on December 22, 1901. Poet, playwright, novelist and novelist, he was also an essayist and journalist, among other activities.

In 1925 he graduated in Romance Philology, with the thesis As Correntes e as Individualidades na Moderna Poesia Portuguesa. In it he talks about Sá-Carneiro and Fernando Pessoa, practically unknown poets at the time. Perhaps for this reason, the thesis was not appreciated.
In 1927, with Branquinho da Fonseca and João Gaspar Simões, José Régio founded the magazine Presença and through it, Sá Carneiro, Pessoa and all our modernism were finally rehabilitated. José Régio was one of the main promoters of this magazine and remained with it until 1940, the year of its extinction. The aesthetic and literary movement created around Presence is designated as modernism. Writers such as João Gaspar Simões, Vitor Nemésio, Miguel Torga collaborated in Presença and the magazine had the merit of having published modern European literature – Proust, Appolinaire, Gide, Pirandello, among others. Presença defended the psychological dimension and the ahistorical path in literature.

Sculptural Reading
Sculpture
Sculpture with short legs, a little bent, like a primitive man who sought a more upright posture. There is a vine around his body; the vine means both life and a pilgrim's staff.
Poetic Reading
His representation points to the introspective, confessional man. Psychologizing tendency typical of some neorealists.
Sculptor Francisco Simões
Patron TECNOVIA, Sociedade de Empreitadas, S.A.
