Life and work
Natália De Oliveira Correia was born in Fajã de Baixo, São Miguel island, Azores, on September 13, 1923. When she was 11 years old, her father emigrated, and Natália settled with her mother and sister in Lisbon, where she studied high schools. He produced a vast body of work, encompassing several literary genres, with translations into several languages and posthumous editions. In 1971, the Botequim bar opened, where, during the 1970s and 1980s, part of the Portuguese intelligentsia met.

Natália Correia received, in 1991, the Grand Prize for Poetry from the Portuguese Association of Writers for the book Sonetos Românticos. And she was awarded the Order of Santiago and the Order of Freedom.
Gifted with oratorical talent and a combative spirit, she participated in several movements opposing the regime. The use of words was, for Natália Correia, a powerful instrument in the fight against intolerance and obscurantism and in defense of fundamental humanist and democratic values. He passed away in Lisbon, on March 16, 1993.

Sculptural Reading
Sculpture
Sculpture carved in volcanic stone from the Azores, invoking the inevitable passage of time, but preserving the icon of beauty it represents. It reflects the haughtiness, the arrogance of the woman with enlightened political ideas. Hands resting on a bar, as if she were speaking in Parliament (she was a deputy) or in the bar Botequim was the meeting point with friends on nights that remained memorable.
Poetic Reading
The sculptural elements point to all the symbolism of the woman whose personality defended freedom and opposition to social conventions of which her poetry constitutes the maximum exponent. Reference to oratorical talent and combative spirit.
Sculptor Francisco Simões
