Known for the quality of its fish and seafood — or if it weren't for being located just a few meters from the sea — Astrolábio is one of the references for restaurants in the municipality of Oeiras.
“The Astrolábio opened around twenty years ago”, says Raúl Araújo, the current person in charge, “It was in the hands of the founder, who is the owner of the building, until before the pandemic. I was already interested in exploring the space, he was interested in renting it, that possibility was up in the air, but in the meantime, the pandemic happened. Now we are finally able to open”, he explains.

May 3, 2022 was the reopening date. At first glance, everything seems the same in this unmistakable little yellow house in the historic center of Paço de Arcos. The architecture of the space remains the same, only a few decorative details have changed, such as paintings and lamps. “I wanted to change a few more things, make the space a little more refined, but for now it will remain that way”, guarantees Raúl.
In the Astrolabe, the fish is king and lord. “We always have fish fresh out of the sea. There is fresh fish every day, from turbot, sole, sea bass and many others. We always have fresh seafood, including lobster, crab, spider crab, barnacles, everything that comes from here on our coast”, says the manager. Fish and seafood are sold by the kilo.
The restaurant has fresh seafood every day. In addition to these proposals, there are other dishes that the person responsible for the space guarantees are “winning bets”. Raúl Araújo gives three suggestions: within the fish dishes, monkfish rice with prawns, but if you prefer meat, it's worth trying the stewed black pork cheeks or the Portuguese-style fried sirloin steak. You can also order lobster rice, prawn bread or octopus à lagareiro, among other options on the menu.

A very pleasant terrace.
The terrace is an ex-libris of the space, whether in summer or winter. There is nothing better than enjoying a seafood meal or a good grilled fish, while smelling the sea air in the air.
