The Funchal Town Hall building occupies a central place in the county. It is a historic palace of the city, of great architectural value, which preserves its original design until today and which now houses the Town Hall of Funchal.

In the living center of the city, this historic building undeniably marks the urban landscape. It was built in 1758 to serve as the residence of the Count of Carvalhal. Subsequently, it went through several owners and tenants, until it was acquired, in 1883, by the City Council. It then began to serve as the Town Hall of Funchal.
Despite having been altered and reclassified over the decades, it has always maintained its characteristics. It constitutes, therefore, a harmonious example of the architecture of the end of the 18th century. In these facilities, the interior courtyard is landscaped, lined with tiles by Batisttini, executed in 1940 at the Fábrica de Maria de Portugal, and a fountain decorated with a marble statue of "Leda and the Swan", signed by Germano José Salles.
This historic building welcomes the public through visits carried out on weekdays, in several languages. It's the best way to get to know the charms of Funchal's Town Hall in 60 minutes.

Ordered to be built in 1758, the historic palace that serves as the Town Hall still maintains its original lines. It is a harmonious example of late 18th century architecture.
