The architectural heritage of the archipelago of Madeira presents great diversity and an important historical value. The Palacete do Lugar de Baixo, on the west coast of the island of Madeira, is an important example of this vast heritage.

Located in the municipality of Ponta do Sol, on the slopes of Lugar de Baixo, it is also known as “Palacete dos Zinos”. Both the main building and the attached chapel, dedicated to Santo António, were built at the end of the 19th century.

The Palacete do Lugar de Baixo features a romantic style, which creates a harmonious connection with the green surroundings. The outdoor patio has a large useful area, with a total of 1103 m². From there, it is possible to see the Marina and Lagoa do Lugar de Baixo.

Having served several purposes over time, including the headquarters of the Practical and Elementary School of Agriculture and having also functioned as a primary school, it was abandoned between 1976 and 2002, when the Regional Government of Madeira recovered the building. It is, since 2020, a boutique hotel with nine rooms and on its three floors there is a restaurant, a bar, a meeting room and, outside, a swimming pool.
