Located in Belém next to the Museu de Marinha and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the Planetarium de Marinha was inaugurated in 1965 and regularly holds publicity sessions, a way of bringing astronomy closer to the general public.
Refurbished in 2004, the Planetarium has modern equipment with a central projector, planet, sun, panoramic and allsky projectors. It is thus possible to present more than 9,000 stars in both celestial hemispheres, as well as the Milky Way, stellar clusters and nebulae, as well as constellation figures and auxiliary didactic lines. Among others, regular sessions are promoted in several languages, special exhibitions for children and presentations related to certain times of the year.
Complementing this space, there is also a Library with about 1,000 titles and the Observatório Comandante Conceição Silva, with observation equipment that is usually used by amateur astronomers.
