The Tabuleiro restaurant is located next to the main square of Tomar, Praça da República, in one of the most famous streets in the historic centre. Known as Corredoura, Rua Serpa Pinto offers magnificent views from the São Baptista Church that dominates the square, to the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Templar Castle.
O Tabuleiro is an unattractive restaurant from the outside, but its outside tables, arranged in a wide sidewalk area, provide an excellent opportunity to appreciate Tomar's architectural heritage while enjoying a hearty meal in one of the best value for money restaurants. . On warm summer nights, Praça da República and the surrounding streets fill up with locals and tourists from all over the country and beyond, strolling or simply relaxing in the afternoon sun, making the O Tabuleiro restaurant a great place for people watching. .
The interior is modern, although not avant-garde, but it is a welcome alternative to the predominantly rustic restaurants typical of this area of Portugal. Menus are multilingual and offer many varied options, perfect for families and mixed groups. Portion sizes for main courses are available in small or large, and even the small portions are usually large enough to satisfy most appetites.
The food is typically Portuguese with traditional home cooking, with special emphasis on dishes such as stewed veal, oven-baked spare ribs, grilled fish and rice. There is a good wine list with some well known national labels as well as bottles produced locally on the Templar estate.
The quality of the food is very good, enhanced by the warm and attentive service that characterizes the restaurant. In general, the O Tabuleiro restaurant is a good place for families in the center of Tomar, offering good food.
