On January 27, 1892, the statutes of the Club Naval de Lisboa were approved, already in activity since November 1891. With the appearance of the Clube Naval de Lisboa, water sports and rowing in particular gained a notable increase because the newly created The club brings great dynamism to sports.

To celebrate the birthdays of King D. Carlos and Queen Dª Amélia, the Real Club Naval de Lisboa decided to hold the Cascais Regattas on September 29, 1901, which were followed in the following years, on the same date, by identical regattas that were they became famous for their splendor. We can read in the Minutes Book of the Regatta Committee of the Real Club Naval de Lisboa that in this regatta there were races contested by society ladies, probably constituting one of the first demonstrations of women's sport in Portugal.
