Life and work

Vasco Cabral – Guinea/Bissau (1926-2005).

African poet was born in Farim, Guinea Bissau, where he died. In addition to his poetic activity, he was also a political activist and lived in hiding.

With no previous literary work, Vasco Cabral's authorship appears with the book “A Luta é a minha Primavera – Poemas” (África publisher, 1981) which brings together 59 texts written between 1951 and 1974, ordered chronologically in each of the book's sections, mirror of his African nationalist ideas (exploitation, colonialism).

He is part of the neorealist school of his time. Solidarity, fraternity, love, pain, joy, hope, freedom, the poetry of life, are some of the semantic fields of Vasco Cabral's poetic script.
