You are reading this post on a computer and you were talking to your loved one on one of them and will probably have yourself entertained by a computer too. It’s a cliche to talk about how computers run our world these days and how important they are but do you truly understand what it is. I am not talking about understanding its inner workings which is certainly hard to understand and requires a good grasp of Maths but what it can empower us to do. Computers are some of the most fascinating inventions of humanity. You can do all sorts of things by them that abide by the laws of physics. Normal things can be done easily but some activities which you might say to counteract my statement can be done by communicating with someone through a computer.
A logic gate is a system that outputs in binary(0 or 1 ), its state depends on if the circuit is closed or open. It has been proved that any solution or computing can be done just with a system of logic gates, from the most complex simulations to playing games or someday even making AGI can be done with just processing 1’s and 0’s. When I first read that I thought I had read it wrong but I hadn’t. It’s mind-boggling and all of this was made possible by some of the greatest minds over the course of centuries but one man’s contributions are undoubtedly the most influential - Alan Mathison Turing . I would write a full blogpost on him as every true computer lover is a fan of turing’s work . Thers a whole field of Computer science which deals with the limits and other aspects of computation and information . Some Scientists have even argued that the most fundamental aspect of our reality is not fields or strings but information .
Now a time has come when we are threatened by their ability to accomplish wonders we could only think of. Most people try to spot out some areas where they are good at more than any computer or AI but what happens when they are unable to? We as humans have our insecurities which seem reasonable to me as our ego gets hurt when a nonliving human-made object is better than us but we have to learn the truth that someday they will leave us far behind in intellect and in capacity to perform tasks. The only way for humanity to flourish is by utilizing the ability of computers not by being threatened by them.
