Doechii's been nominated for a Grammy. Four times (!): Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Remixed Recording.
Doechii is a Florida-born rap artist signed to the iconic TDE label-SZA, Schollboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, Ab-Soul, formerly Kendrick Lamar.
That's great news, despite all the bad publicity around Grammys: the award has somewhat lost its value, the selection of nominees remains a mystery to someone, and Beyoncé's and Taylor Swift's constant victories have long become tiresome. For Doechii, the Grammy nomination is, first and foremost, a chance for more coverage, getting a name, and popularizing her wonderful mixtape "Alligator Bites Never Heal".
Generally speaking, this is the year of Doechii. Bend your fingers:
"Alligator Bites Never Heal" received absolutely deserved critical and listener acclaim, a perfect mix of text-centric boom-bap, melodic hip-hop, and sassy self-representation.
Doechii is theUIAlert you need right now. Just check the list of artists she has already covered this year: Katy Perry, Banks, Tyler, The Creator. She has gained some merit on this side of the ocean too: James Blake and Little Simz were at the London concert and took photos together with obvious pleasure.
The single "NISSAN ALTIMA" has already sold more than 100 000 copies in the US.
I leave here my favorite songs from "Alligator Bites Never Heal", but highly recommend listening to the whole mixtape. TDE know how to make stars out of original artists, so I'm sure she's the next.
