Hello hello!
It's been a while! We've made a couple of changes around here with the intention of keeping things neat and tidy. But the last few months have been kind of amazing, my dad visited for a month and I got to show off all the (limited) Toronto knowledge I gathered over the last year + change. Tourism and family time was a welcome break, and now we're back to the grind!

I love working in a pocket within a niche industry, alongside values-aligned folks. We spent the last quarter overhauling our brand. Breadchain is over 4 years old, and the team, vision & appetite to enact change has grown with each passing day. So we wanted our identity as an organisation to reflect that. Embedded below is our announcement of the new brand, Bread Cooperative. We get into each decision that resulted in the new look & feel, it's one for the visual communicators among us. Shout out to catherine (no, lowercase is intentional) Ruben, Sara, Bren, Rade and Blessing for all the amazing, big-brain design thinking that went into this.
It took a LOT of work to put together the brand you now see, and it must have been a rollercoaster of emotion for the founding members. They built this from 0, and now the expanded team is chopping and changing everything to fit an abstract vision for the future. That's sort of where I came in, to help ease everyone into the new situation, and make the abstract feel just that little bit more tangible. The website, its copy, and all documentation, (some of it still being crafted) were the last stage of a 4 step process.
Re-evaluating & adapting the brand tenets. In short, who are we, what do we stand for, and how do we want to be perceived?
Creating a detailed brand voice guide, including words/phrases/sentences/ideas that we should embrace or avoid. How do we want to communicate who we are? What language & ideas are most important to the community that we serve? How do we ensure our language is inclusive, supportive, and representative of the team at Bread?
A manifesto, clearly stating our goals as an organisation. Crypto marketing tends to be more talk than action so this was our first chance to show how we are different. What we've done, what we plan to do, and how we plan to achieve it.
Using all this, we finally create the website copy, blogs, newsletters and all written communication. Putting the proof in the pudding, ensuring that our brand voice is consistent and our mission recognisable.
It was the my first wholesale re-branding exercise for an existing community, loved the experience. The self-imposed compressed timelines gave me flashbacks from another life in marketing but that's a trauma dump for another day. We really should make a case study about the rebrand since crypto x political left x design is a banger of a niche.

We're still rocking a lot of momentum from this rebrand and are using our position in the industry to share skills. We've got a free workshop coming up this Thursday, the 6th of November, where we'll teach you one of the most essential parts of crypto - securely managing shared funds. This is tailored for non-profits, cooperatives and democratic collectives, and absolutely no crypto experience is needed. 1 hour is all you'll need to actually start managing your organisation funds in a democratic way. If you want to learn, but can't make it, still sign up. We'll send you setup tips, resources and support links so you won't need to go it alone. Event link below!
This time of year is a little quiet re: big events, but we've got stuff for the builders & builder-curious among us. After you attend our morning Bread Co-op workshop, we meet over at Nerd Show and Tell at Christie. Paul is a fun host, passionate developer and an Obsidian power user who's using his space to encourage people to actually show what they're building. You gotta talk about your own work, nobody else will do it for you. Learn how to pitch, demo & provide actionable feedback in a chilled out space. Get your demos ready, and BYOB if you want to partake. Event embedded below.
Then the big one this week is hosted by our friends at Polkadot Toronto. 3-day hackathon, and I'll be attending because marketers will get you that product-market fit that will win you the prize. Speaking of prizes, event sponsors and S-tier PC builders Quoted Tech are giving away a monster machine that's almost powerful enough to launch a space shuttle. If I win, I'll use its immense graphical capabilities to play Football Manager. Yes FM26 is a total train wreck. No, I won't talk about it in this edition because it's an ongoing crisis. Here's the link to the Polkadot Builder Party, embedded below too.
For a month.
I'll be attending Safary's Marketing Certification course over November. It's THE marketing community for people making waves in the space, and we had our intro hangout yesterday. 30+ people from all over the world, including some friends and former colleagues which shows how closely-knit our industry actually is.
I'll be posting any eureka moments & insights I learn during the course across my socials, as well as in the newsletter. Have a look at my Linktree if you'd like to be in the loop on any of the social networks I'm active. If any of the insights warrant their own blog, we'll you're already in the right space to receive it 🙂
So I'll keep this one short, sweet and actionable. The onus is on me to make this a consistent habit, thank you for being a part of this! If you're organising any tech events, educational meetups or chill hangs let me know, I'd love to include it in my next edition.
Until next time, you take care and I'll talk to you real soon!

First newsletter post in forever, feels good to be back. Do share it with fellow Torontonians! https://paragraph.com/@marvynpaul.eth/newsletter-9-bread-cooperative-rebrand-toronto-crypto-november-2025?referrer=0x0AF94124E30A907f0a1dF9Ba1a9AF9BE5f2d9312
Breadchain evolves into Bread Cooperative with a refreshed brand, clearer voice, and a community manifesto. It highlights a free workshop on secure shared-fund management for non-profits on Nov 6, plus Toronto crypto events and Safary's Marketing Certification course. Authored by @marvp.
