Wormhole is a cross-chain bridge protocol that enables the seamless transfer of assets and communication between multiple blockchains. It currently supports over 30 networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Near, Polygon, BNB Chain, Aptos, Sui, Optimism, and Arbitrum.
Wormhole addresses two main challenges in blockchain ecosystems:
Cross-chain Token Transfers: Moving tokens across blockchains is often difficult.
Interoperability Issues: Decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts on different blockchains cannot communicate easily.
When users initiate a transfer, validators—a group of selected nodes—monitor on-chain activities. Validators lock tokens on the source chain and mint equivalent wrapped tokens on the destination chain, ensuring secure cross-chain transfers.
Since its launch, Wormhole has processed over 1 billion transactions, totaling more than $40 billion in volume. The protocol supports 200+ dApps, with 74.7% of its monthly transactions occurring on the Solana blockchain.
Portal:
Portal is Wormhole’s core bridge product, supporting major blockchains such as Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, and Arbitrum. It ranks 14th in daily trading volume, with $11.08 million processed according to DefiLlama.
Carrier:
Carrier enables cross-chain transfers of both tokens and NFTs across 12 networks, including Solana and Polygon. It offers a wallet dashboard, transaction previews, and multi-bridge functionality for simultaneous transactions. Upcoming features include swaps and two-factor authentication (2FA).
Native Token Transfers (NTT):
NTT provides a framework for transferring native tokens across chains while preserving their attributes. This solution reduces liquidity fragmentation and allows projects to customize metadata and governance.
Wormhole offers a flexible infrastructure for developers to build **multichain dApps, DAOs, decentralized exchanges
