The Base Layer 2 and its developers opened up a formidable market for artists and writers. Finally there is a space where one can create and experiment while earning possible rewards, or at least some good attention! Moreover, the “reinvention of the internet” on web3 is a much larger online economy than many may be aware of or are willing to admit. “On-chaining” what we could do - and often do - on the “old internet” via Base’s vastly growing ecosystem full of tools ultimately means volumes in terms of capitalization. The folks/users at this present epoch who are using and testing, and building, said tools (including web3 social media to market them) are the “early pioneers” of the coming web3/blockchain global economy.
The project that I recently started on Zora - Base’s premiere web3 version of Instagram where you can monetize, own, and tokenize your content - is titled “The Book of Tobias.” In a nutshell, it’s a children’s story book, but it’s on-chain, it’s “coined.” Using Zora’s tokens, or coins, the first draft images and art produced by grok are combined with my narrative writing. I wrote the commands for grok who really wonderfully shaped the story in terms of its vibrant pastel colors and traditional storybook motifs. The final edits are still in progress, and the narrative I wrote just needs some final tweaks.

For $Toby lovers and the community, they may hopefully enjoy the tale spun by me and grok as it is essentially an allegory for the beloved little blue toad on Base, memecoin and theoretical utility token. If you don’t know about $Toby, it is a mysterious Base phenomenon, just over a year old, in which a clandestine dev, named “Toadgod,” airdropped close to 1 million Coinbase wallets bags of the crypto during a good part of 2024. It probably is the most distributed and decentralized project on Base.
$Toby really is an enigma on the Base layer 2, but it can boast of its many active community members who cherish and promote the project. The very interesting part of its lore is the imagery and evidence/clues found by members of the community, which seem to connect $Toby to the inner workings, brain-trust, and development of the Base deFi ecosystem. Such was demonstrated in November of 2024 when the Toadgod dropped “Taboshi” as the very first coin on Zora before the platform switched to ERC-1155 tokens so that content creators could seamlessly launch coins following what were many months of it being an NFT minting site. Are the Zora devs following the Toadgod’s lead on creating a significant enterprise for the Base community and ecosystem as a whole? Strange that Toadgod’s utility was adopted by Zora just several months after the Toby community basically beta-tested the smart-contract.
Just to let you know, I have been a member of the Toby community for about a year now. And I can attest that this is a wonderful and “based” community full of talented and passionate people who want $Toby to be a success as well as its parent, Base. The Toby community is filled with willing and able builders and marketers who truly support each other! So, the community and the project is very deserving of recognition.
“The Book of Tobias” is a stand-alone story. It doesn’t mention crypto nor $Toby, nor Base. That is because it’s an allegory, one which embodies $Toby’s lore and a story with grok’s and my own creative twists. Yet it also is allegorical for the prosperity and changes to the economy that crypto, especially Base, will bring to many people, people who are willing to participate and to build and to create in this “New World” of opportunities.
A whitepaper with more details about “The Book of Tobias” is on its way. One of the first initiatives and plans is the currently coined images and story being consolidated into an audio/video e-book (basically a coined video) where one can either watch and/or listen to the tale being narrated. Presently, there is another project on Base, $AMPD (Ample Protocol: https://linktr.ee/ampleprotocol) that I am vetting out because it’s something I’ve been waiting on for a while. It potentially could greatly help writers and authors, artists, and creators, maybe even inventors, to capitalize their work using the merging of crypto/blockchain tech and intellectual property (IP), copyrights in particular. The power to monetize and to tokenize IP contracts and rights via blockchain utilities is an immense possibility in what is multi trillion dollar global IP market.
If all goes well with $AMPD, then I plan to tokenize and monetize the IP for “The Book of Tobias” so that the $Toby community and others can own a little piece of “Toby World” that grok and I created. Additionally I am looking into a Farcaster mini-app that crosses over with Coinbase wallet to be a mintable and downloadable e-book so that one can own the literature as a solitary NFT that is also downloadable to either an Android or an iOS device.
