What are NFTs? 🤨

NFT stands for Non Fungible Token. Its a link on the blockchain from an account to an unique digital item through a smart contract. Sounds super difficult, but it isn’t. Its basically an digital name tag, tagged to this unique digital item. These unique digital items are currently mostly Art. NFTs have been super successful lately, so its definitely worth to get into this! NFTs get worth through its project hype, rarity and all other factors we’ll discuss in the other chapters. We won’t discuss this in the “Getting Started with NFTs” guide.

How to create a wallet / OpenSea account?

Creating a wallet is super important. Its the core of trading, publishing and buying NFTs. Its basically that name tag that should get applied to the art pieces you bought.

How to setup your wallet (Make sure to use Google Chrome):

1. Go to the following website: 👇🏼

   https://metamask.io/

2. Hit the “Download Now” button and press: “Add MetaMask to Chrome”. You’ll get directed to the Chrome Extention WebStore, here you can hit: “Add Extention” now, MetaMask will be set up totally free on your Chrome Webbrowser.

3. Now MetaMask will take you through the account setup process. Everything here will speak for itself. At the end of the process, you get a “Secret Recovery Phrase” this is basically the key to your wallet. NEVER share this with anyone. Be aware that when you’re getting to Discord, there will be plenty of scams. We’ll get into that later..

4. After your MetaMask account is created, you can go to: 👇🏼

5. Here you can hit the profile icon in the top right, this allows you to sign in using your wallet. Hit “MetaMask” and the Chrome Extention will be opened. Log in there (this is legit and won’t damage your wallet)

6. And BOOM! 💥 , You have your OpenSea account & Wallet set up!

How to add funds to your wallet? 💰

Without funds on your wallet, you won’t be able to purchase NFTs. Even with these “free mint” projects, you’ll still have to pay gas fees. We’ll get more into that later. But for now, lets dive in to adding ETH to your MetaMask wallet.

1. Open your MetaMask Chrome Extention

2. Right under your balance, there should be an icon saying “Buy”.

3. This will give you a few options, personally i would pick “Wyre”. Once clicking “Continue to Wyre” you’ll land on a webpage where you can set your amount, add your Credit Card information.

4. Once you’ve set your amount, hit “Next” and submit your info. Once done, you can add the funds to your account!

What is gas / What fees should you expect? ⛽️

All transactions on the Blockchain go through “Miners”. Gas fees are rewards given to miners for putting your transactions in the blockchain or executing them. Its basically a transaction fee. Every time you purchase an NFT, you’ll have to pay gas fees. So be aware, if you want to make profit, always subtract your upcoming fees!

There is also a one time Wallet Verification fee when you want to put an item up for sale. This payment could fluctuate! It depends on the current ETH price. Make sure to check them. To give you an perspective: $40 is very low, $220 is very high. Try to time it right!
