Next.ID hosted DID Summer Episode 2 on 2 Aug 2022 with Web3 developer communities & builders from Minority Programmers, Her DAO, 0xCorgis, and Developer DAO. In line with the vision of building Next.ID into a DAO, the core team organized this AMA to create awareness and reach out to potential developers and community members.
Next.ID comprises of 3 main services:
The session started with a product demo illustrating the back-end mechanics followed by an in-depth explanation of each individual service. Other developer communities were invited to familiarize themselves with Next.ID’s vision, so as to allow for open-source building and collaborations.
You can watch the full episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/sVVXA5gxHzM
Key Takeaways:
In existing identity systems, users do not fully own their digital identities. Web2 social media companies have control over our online data and privacy. Our accounts and content can easily be censored or deleted by these companies. Next.ID aims to solve this issue by returning ownership of digital identities back to users.
Next.ID’s ProofService, KVService, and RelationService are in-house developed identity management services that allow users to aggregate identities across Web2 and Web3 via Avatars. Developers are free to brainstorm and leverage Next.ID’s back-end API/protocol to build their front-end applications.
Next.ID is exploring ways to incentivize community members to get involved in the development of its DAO. We want to find a solution to provide the best user experience without compromising user privacy.
ProofService is the core DID management service that aggregates all identities across Web2 and Web3.
KVService allows users to store data off-chain on Arweave, without sacrificing the user’s ownership of the data. Cryptography and public-private key pairs are used to validate the data and only the user gets to modify it.
RelationService builds a robust connection tree between the network of identities. It contains upstream data collected from third parties which are then combined to build a more comprehensive identity database. Examples of on-chain Web3 protocols include RSS3, CyberConnect, and LensProtocol. Examples of off-chain Web2 parties include Keybase and ProofService.
Common misconception from Q&A: Next.ID DID aggregation does not happen on the blockchain. Instead, it uses ProofChain which is a model that builds trustless authentication.
