Trading on OpenSea is pretty much a straightforward affair. Open a tab, browse the collections you want, find sellers with art that speaks to you, place a bid, and voila, you may be the owner of a super-rare punk.
What if this experience could be improved? Swapchat’s new partnership with Next.ID solves exactly this.
Swapchat is a decentralised cross-platform messaging app that aims to increase communication across Web3 communities, reducing the crypto community’s reliance on centralised platforms like Twitter and Discord and addressing the lack of interactive functions on Opensea. Users can send direct messages as well as form community group chats around NFT collections using Swapchat’s Chrome plugin.
Complementing Swapchat is Next.ID, a Universal Identity System. Next.ID is a protocol that enables users to crystallize and solidify their online identities across Web2 and Web3, consolidating and authenticating identities from social media platforms (eg Facebook and Instagram) to blockchain wallets (eg Metamask). Next.ID builds the basis for a comprehensive user-owned digital identity social graph, enabling us to grow our networks beyond isolated accounts.
When you see what Swapchat has built on OpenSea, your first thought will be “OpenSea should have built this long ago!” By allowing conversations between buyers and sellers, a natural conclusion will be a greater price discovery mechanism via negotiations. Buyers will be able to offer NFTs, tokens, and any combination of both for sellers to consider, and sellers will have a different avenue to better articulate price demands.
Because Swapchat works cross-platform, users can easily get notifications for updates on Opensea from their Twitter interface and vice versa. Plus, if users can also use Swapchat as an initial starting point before moving to trusted third party protocols like Sudoswap for OTC NFT transfers — without extra fees.
Next.ID’s universal identity system opens new pathways to building a community. For example, users who connect their Twitters to Metamask via Next.ID are able to follow each other and continue their conversations there.
Buyers and sellers of gaming NFTs can discuss strategies and potential combinations that will give them an edge over others, and GameFi projects benefit from greater liquidity and communication among players.
Newly-launched projects can also encourage greater conversations within their communities in a trustless way, using Swapchat as a tool to drive hype and conversations about roadmaps.
