I’m excited to announce that my Fallacy Detector chrome extension is now available for testing. I decided to build this app since I am a vociferous consumer of various forms of media, especially news articles and social media across the realms of domestic politics, geopolitics, and local media. I will see a headline on social media and then try to find a trustworthy media source to evaluate how true the social media headline is. I also use Ground News to see if there is a certain bias, as well as uncover blind spots. One thing that frustrated me though was being able to quickly identify, regardless of left or right or in-between, if the article was well put together and if it was using any common manipulation techniques like ad-hominem attacks or more subtle ones as well. That’s where the genesis of the app came from, and how it was brought to life!

The app is a chrome extension which allows you to pull up a news article (or other article), highlight the text, and get an analysis as to the degree the article uses cognitive biases or not.

Steps to use the extension:

1. Highlight text and right click:

1. Wait a sec for analysis (not too long)

   

2. Read the analysis!
