Onchain Spaces, Places & Destinations
Smart Contracts are onchain spaces native to blockchains. A space is a location that’s always fundamentally open to human presence and activity, but not intrinsically or necessarily a home to that as such. I’m in the final stages of editing a new article for my Fakewhale Room. Working title: Community, Infinite Games & Cryptoart.
While everyone and their mother in crypto talks about ‘community,’ I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone actually offer a definition of what community is.
So, of course, I couldn’t write a whole article on community without trying to define it. I’ve workshopped the definition over the last month or so both in my own head (lmao) but also with some trusted friends in Seoul and I’m feeling good with the latest version. So without further ado, I present my latest working definition of community:
Community is any group or collective oriented around a shared infinite game that provides emotional shelter to a range of different participants
Would love to hear folks’ thoughts on this definition. I’ll unpack it thoroughly in that upcoming Fakewhale article too, so stay tuned for that.
