The modern economic playing field is inarguably tilted in favour of the rich.As a proportion of net-worth, cash holdings tend to diminish with increasing income, as wealthy households gravitate towards putting their money to work. The logic is straightforward and easy to follow: lower income households have a larger portion of their income earmarked for non-discretionary spending - namely, housing, groceries, debt and taxes. Liquid capital is essential for this category. For this category, cash is king.
But from the perspective of return generation, cash is among the worst performing of all financial assets. It does not appreciate in value or earn a return / dividend.
