Hi!
Scroll is still at an early stage of development and the project team is more occupied with the product itself than marketing or creating any interactive interaction with the community. Because of this reason, the fact that the community is not so familiar with even the most active member of the team in terms of interaction with the Liam community.
By writing this article, I will be able to introduce you to this person better, you will learn a lot of new, interesting and sometimes funny things for yourself, starting from how he started doing cryptocurrency in general, ending with a funny case / story from his life during the development of Scroll.
Interview
How did you come to cryptocurrency and in what year did it happen? In late 2020 a friend of mine taught me a little bit about the Ethereum ecosystem as well as Decentralised Finance (DeFi). From there I dived as deep as I could into the weeds of this space and learning everything that I could about Ethereum, DeFi, and Ethereum’s scalability roadmap. From there I launched my own educational newsletter with the purpose of helping other newcomers easily navigate the space.
Was it difficult for you to study cryptocurrency and understand how everything works at the beginning of your way in the crypto world?
It was difficult at first, because back when I started ethereum.org wasn’t as beginner friendly as it is now. I found that Bankless helped a lot as a newcomer since they have resources readily available for pretty much all need-to-know crypto concepts. The Daily Gwei and ETH Hub also helped a lot as they provide very regular news updates in both newsletter and podcast format surrounding the Ethereum ecosystem.
What was the original goal of cryptocurrency for you? Was it for profit, interest or something else?
When I purchased my first cryptocurrency (which was ETH) it was mainly myself wanting to make a quick profit. But after I made the purchase I decided that it would be sensible to learn about what I just purchased.. lol. Once I started learning I quickly fell deeper and deeper down the Ethereum rabbit hole, and was highly intrigued by the Layer 2 ecosystem and scalability roadmap in general.
How did you come to create/participate in the creation of the Scroll project?
At the time I was writing and publishing educational content surrounding Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem from both from my personnel platform, as well as for a company I was previously involved with called LimeChain. I was lucky enough to meet Sandy Peng during Devconnect in Amsterdam, who is one of the Co-Founders at Scroll. From there I officially joined the Scroll team as a Community Manager.
What drives you and motivates you most to take part in the development of Scroll?
What drives me to help further develop Scroll is the same reason as why I originally wanted to start contributing to the space in the first place. To help Ethereum succeed, and to help facilitate the development of a more equitable, transparent, composable, and censorship-resistant future. For Ethereum to succeed and fulfil this vision, it needs to scale via Rollups to a point where the Ethereum network can finally facilitate a billion+ users, and have sufficient capacity that is needed to provide itself as global settlement layer for transactions. ** Why the name Scroll? And why do you like the scroll as a logo so much?**

Can you call your team your “second family,” your close friends? Or is it only the development of Scroll that binds you together?
I can absolutely call the Scroll team my second family. I work with some incredible people with some of the most brilliant minds in the space, and I have met many new people since joining which have since become close friends of mine
Do you think humanity is ready for cryptocurrency to enter the masses, in everyday life?
I think it’s safe to say that we are still extraordinarily early in regard to blockchain adoption at a global scale. I think society becomes more ready as this technology further evolves, through new innovative applications as well as easier and much more cos efficient accessibility. Eventually we will get to a point where most of this technology is completely abstracted away from the end user to the point where people don’t even realise they are interacting with Ethereum or blockchain technology in general.
The most ridiculous/funniest situation that happened to you while developing Scroll?
The funniest thing that happens to me at Scroll is the language lessons that I participate in every week. Each week myself and one of the our other team members tries to teach and improve each other in our native languages — I teach English, and they teach me Chinese. It’s a work in progress but we are getting there
What are the 3 main qualities that you would highlight that a person needs to possess in order to create a project in cryptocurrency? I would say..
Honesty — You have to be genuine, and a truthful and trustful person in order to build a successful community
Integrity — You have to be in the industry for the right reasons, not just for personal gain.
Pioneer — You have to be willing to pioneer new ways of thinking in order to build out a new and innovative applications that will become self-sustaining and succeed on a long term horizon within the space. workflow and very rarely read personal messages in the discord.
