The number 4 is more than just a number. It represents stability and structure—the foundation of everything solid. Coincidentally (or maybe not), 4 is also the month I was born—April. To me, April is the most memorable month of all: cherry blossoms bloom across the world, there’s the lighthearted joy of April Fools, and of course, YouTube’s birthday. Fun fact—my birthday is on the same day as YouTube’s. A delightful coincidence that feels like a sign: perhaps the internet and I were never meant to be apart.
Alright, enough with the small talk—so, what exactly is The Oortism? The name Oortism is inspired by the Oort Cloud—a vast cluster of icy objects at the edge of our solar system, barely visible, yet holding immense potential to reshape everything we know. Oortism stands for unconventional ideas: distant, strange, ambiguous—but precisely for those reasons, worth exploring. It embodies thoughts that are uncomfortable, unpopular, but invaluable. It’s about uncovering what’s hard to reach, and finding direction in what’s often ignored. In the space of intellectual exploration, Oortism is a principle: that at the edge, in the realm of uncertainty, the most meaningful ideas are often born.
I’m Bayu Aprio Pamungkas, the writer behind The Oortism. Through this platform, I’ll be sharing written works across a wide range of topics—technology, society, culture, economy, controversy, and more. We’ll examine each subject critically, backed by data, but also creatively—with curiosity and imagination. To me, writing isn’t just about explaining things, but about inviting you to think. With every piece I publish, I hope to spark your curiosity and challenge your perspective.
As Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." And maybe, part of that “incredible” is hidden within the words we’ll explore here. This isn’t just a blog—it’s an expedition. Because at The Oortism, we don’t write just to know—we write to understand.
