What started as an attractive alternative to Ethereum because of the low gas fees and scalability of network is now blossoming into a vibrant ecosystem full of new traders, real builders, & creators. All of this also brings volume and opportunity.
With the recent Opensea integration, mobile friendly wallets, and many collections breaking records in terms of volume traded and market cap, Solana is now a bustling ecosystem that many may find themselves wanting to have exposure to.
Over the last six months, Solana has seen a diverse influx of projects, going through different narratives over time. We‘ve seen the gambling meta come and go, the metaverse meta, stealth mint meta, Cyberkongz/Boryoku clones focusing on breeding/token yield, etc. But the overarching theme throughout its entirety has been an emphasis on utility/tokenization. This is to the extent that some Solana projects without a token are stigmatized as being inferior. People understandably like projects that yield passive income, as Solana creators are notoriously generous with their liquidity pools. Many even offer direct revenue back to holders – they do not seem to concern themselves with the potential breach of security laws. The true wild west.
What are the main SOL marketplaces?
The most popular marketplace on Solana. It gets the majority of the volume on Solana for most projects.
Previously the most popular marketplace on Solana. Does not get much volume, though arbitrage may be possible sometimes. Certain tools (like NFT Soloist) aggregate listings across multiple marketplaces.
The home of 1/1 art on Solana. This marketplace focuses on the niche of 1/1 art. They do get some volume, but as this is a niche market the volume is sporadic and low at times.
Solport is a marketplace run by Tom (from Taiyo) and his team. It does not get much volume at the moment, with primary marketplace volume coming from from Taiyo itself, together with recent launchpad projects that are launching through the Solport “unbottable” launchpad.
There are many other tools in Solana. These may include sniper bots, minting bots, charting tools, other web interfaces similar to NFTSoloist, etc. There are plenty of tools available with a stream of new tools and bots being released every week. This is just a list of our personal preferences.
If you know what NFT Nerds is, this is the Solana equivalent made by the same devs. The price is monthly subscription of 2◎. There is currently a promotion at 4.5◎ for 6 months of subscription. Genesis lifetime passes are also available on MagicEden.
A powerful charting tool that is free, similar to Parsec.
There are a few others, but this is a non-exhaustive list. I suggest you start asking in your involved communities and find out what people are also using.

Burner wallets are important in the Solana ecosystem. Rug projects and wallet drainers are way more common than on ETH. You must protect yourself. One way to minimize the damage is to create some burner wallets in your Phantom app to use for minting.
I recommend these guidelines:
Create a few extra wallets in your Phantom that you can use as burners. It is incredibly easy to add extra wallets to your Phantom, and there is no gas initiation fee or any penalties for doing so.
Use one of the burner wallets for minting and only send enough SOL to that wallet to cover the mint price + gas.
Only send what you’re comfortable losing. This way, you minimize damage in case of a wallet drain.
Keep all your holdings (both $SOL and NFTs) in your hardware wallet. A ledger costs around 0.4 SOL and can protect you from a major disaster. Don’t cheap out on security.
This is important to protect yourself from any hacks, social engineering scams, etc.
Ledger hardware wallets are compatible with Phantom. After minting from a burner wallet you should move all your holdings to a hardware wallet.
