Google has officially introduced Nano Banana, the latest generative image model within the Gemini ecosystem. The technology is hailed as a major leap in visual AI because it offers natural language-based image editing with high consistency. Beyond generating images, Nano Banana ensures security with both visible and digital watermarks embedded in every output.

Nano Banana is the popular name for Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, a generative model developed by Google DeepMind. Through official announcements on the Google Blog and Google Developers, the company stated that this model is designed to bring an intuitive editing experience. Users can edit photos using simple text instructions without needing to create masks or manual layers.

This technology is built to be user-friendly for both everyday users and developers. Google provides access to Nano Banana through the Gemini app on web and mobile, and also through Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI. The API pricing starts at about 30 US dollars per one million output tokens, or roughly 0.039 US dollars per image.

One of the classic issues in AI editing has been the inability to maintain subject similarity across multiple edits. Nano Banana addresses this limitation. The model can retain the identity of faces, pets, or objects even after repeated modifications. Times of India highlighted this as a major strength compared to other AI models in the industry.

Users can make sequential edits as needed. For example, repaint a wall, then add a shelf, a sofa, or change the background into a scenic landscape. All of this can be done through natural language instructions. Google emphasized that the system leverages world knowledge, making contextual prompts more accurate.

Beyond editing a single photo, Nano Banana also allows blending two images into a new composition. This is especially useful for creative tasks such as product concept design, artistic experiments, or even playful digital collages.

Ethics and safety remain key concerns in visual AI. Google integrates two layers of safeguards: a visible AI watermark and a hidden digital watermark powered by SynthID. This ensures that every Nano Banana image can be identified as AI-generated, helping reduce risks of misuse for misinformation or deepfakes.

According to Axios, Nano Banana has been available to all Gemini users since August 26, 2025. Both free and paid users can try it directly in the Gemini app. For professionals, developers, and enterprises, the API offers broader integration for scaling use cases.

The launch received strong positive reactions from the tech community. Many see Google’s step as aligned with efforts to ensure transparency in the digital manipulation era. BGR noted that Nano Banana represents Google’s response to the increasingly competitive AI image generation landscape, where players such as OpenAI and Stability AI are also advancing rapidly.

Google itself stated that this is only the beginning of Gemini’s multimodal evolution. The company continues to enhance reasoning capabilities so that AI can go beyond visual creation into deeper contextual understanding.
