Today, I'm combining my ongoing series on Starknet with my exploration of the frontiers of gamefi and Web 3 in video games. In this special edition, we dive into the world of Influence, a space strategy sandbox MMO that’s captivated me since its early access days.
Influence is set in the asteroid belt of the Adalia system, marking humanity’s new home after Earth's demise. This space strategy MMO, developed by Unstoppable Games on the sandbox platform, revolves around mining, building, trading, researching, and fighting. The game begins with the “Exploitation” phase, focusing on the nascent Adalian economy, where players vie for control of resources and supply chains.
As an early access player, I've seen Influence evolve. The thrill of staking claims on asteroids, harnessing resources, and constructing infrastructure is unmatched. Balancing resource management with the need to expand and collaborate adds a strategic depth rarely seen in other games. The game’s emergent gameplay, reminiscent of Eve Online and Stellaris, has kept me hooked, constantly strategizing my next move.
The game’s backstory is intriguing. In 2246, humanity's journey to a new habitable planet takes a detour to the Adalia system. Facing hostile planets, the pioneers turn to the asteroid belt as a last resort. This narrative of resilience and survival adds depth to the gameplay, making each decision feel significant.
Influence blends 4x gameplay, management simulators, and RPG elements, drawing inspiration from Civilization, Factorio, and EVE Online. Players command diverse crews, explore, mine, research, and engage in conflicts. This blend of gameplay styles creates a unique experience that’s both challenging and rewarding.
Central to the game's ecosystem is the SWAY token, which facilitates all in-game transactions. With player-operated markets and SWAY-denominated trading pairs, the game minimizes trade friction and enhances market visibility. This community-driven economy is one of the game's most appealing aspects, as it rewards participation and in-game activities.
The game's community is vibrant and engaged. Players appreciate the blend of exploration, resource management, and thrilling conflicts. The economy adds dynamism to every interaction, though some feel the SWAY token distribution could be more balanced. This feedback highlights the game's evolving nature and its commitment to community involvement.
Influence is not just a game; it's a universe of endless possibilities. Whether you're a strategist, a builder, or an explorer, there’s something in Influence for you. As the game continues to develop, I eagerly anticipate what the future holds for the Adalia system and its intrepid pioneers.
