Highlights and sparklers, resolutions and hangovers of the Meme Maxis, week of December 26, cover by The_OG_Andi_P (announcement).
A fanfare of champagne-supernovae celebrations, welcoming new members to the axis of Maxis! Everyone: meet NedRyersonBing, IfCircus, and cathsimard 🥂🎇
Stuff the population of the planet into a bobsled and launch that down a circular track. You’ll end up with a scenario that’s completely unhelpful for understanding the orbit of Earth around the Sun! Anyhoo, it’s essential we commemorate, periodically, our marbled blue dot’s ceaseless barrel-rolling through its groove in the grand cosmic record, and this is as good a time as any to take a breath, look around, and appreciate how far we’ve come.
Many Maxis take a time-out this week for some perspective on their entire 2022: the discoveries made, difficulties faced, art pondered. It’s safe to declare, now during the twenty-fourth week after Zigmarillion’s creation of the Meme Maxis group, that involvement in The Memes ecosystem has altered life’s trajectory for its members, even if just by subtle nudges.

Above all else, kindness and heart are the dual propellants sustaining the orbits of the Maxis around the Memes. It’s reflected through the lived experience of the amateur meme-ologist who writes this column, but also clearly through the art we witness daily. Speaking of hurtling across space: here’s NeonGlitch86’s edition giveaway for Metaverse Verified holders (announcement) –

JakNFT’s 25-panel highlight reel brimming with color and vitality:

Rakesh Pulapa’s retrospective, overlooking a year of stunning feats of creativity and collaboration:

Though billed as a time of Festivities during this peaceful lull between SZNs 1 and 2, the 6529 team seems to be hard at work behind the scenes: executing regular snapshots, gearing up for special airdrops, prepping for the next slate of artists to descend upon the memeverse. All told, what transpires is a gracious act of magic, or merely excellent hospitality (punk6529’s announcement of “Memeception”) –

Not to mention 24 hours’ worth of parties, all at the same location…‘tis the Open Metaverse way.
Sparkling new rooftops and awe-inspiring community galleries await the first fireworks to greet New Zealand and Australia. Every hour, visitors can pop over to the NYE Countdown Livestream “Memes in the Sky” arena (architected by MattScobel) to watch celebrations beamed from across the globe (Matt’s announcement) –

DarrenSRS hosts OM’s first big bash, for the Asia region, beginning at 10pm SGT: 2022’s final episode of The Metaverse Show—a special edition, broadcast live from the metaverse—followed by rooftop beats to ring in the New Year:

The OM 2023 NYE Treasure Hunt, taking place over 12 hours, awards top sleuth @NFTsOnFire_nft 🏆 with an edition of OMSeized by Rakesh Pulapa.

Thanks also to Rakesh, we’re treated to a crackling close-up view of fireworks in India:

Next up: the crossing for Central European / West Africa Time, with party warm-up support from @VectorMeldrew and an off-the-hook set by @HashKoffee to take us definitively into the future:

Community trailblazer and artrepreneur wildalps hosts the jamboree, facilitating fun experiences through the midnight hours and gathering video evidence of partygoers working their magenta mojo 🧞♀️

Wildalps tells us in her own words about the hosting and party experience:
@VectorMeldrew provided dope tunes & video and people got acquainted with the Oncyber tech practicing their dancing & teleporting skills.
@HashKoffee started blessing us with his live DJ session which hyped the crowd so hard that people fell off the roof while dancing continuously.
With hourly NYs’ countdowns and live fireworks visually presented on a huge screen nearby the OM rooftop, synchronized dance moves around the live dj deck became a thing, as well as levitating above the crowd. 160 people joined at the same time (total probably 5x), and the chat was mainly filled with NYs’ countdowns, congratulating countries for making it to 2023, metaphorically cheersing with WAGMI champagne, trying to crack emoji codes and especially lots and lots of cheering on as well as thanking @HashKoffee for his legendary vibe mix, when punk6529 told us to “buy the dip“.
A highly memorable party which brought together people from all around the world from many NFT communities, the largest group from Mfer. The EU / MidEast / Africa OM NYE Party hot spot was a highly fun, focused, and filled event with partying for over 7 hours in total. The next day we raffled out USDC 250 between all people who posted screenshot selfies during the event on twitter using our specific event hashtag, which lucky @YohohoNikolay won.
The feedback was overall positive and many are already excited for the next round for OM NYE 2024! We just had a few technical issues during the party with some people not being able to hear the music at the warm up session, or people getting rugged from Oncyber with blacked out screens, but this didn’t keep them from having fun & participating in the festivities as much as possible. Big thank you again to @punk6529 and @OM100m for sponsoring such an amazing event bringing us together from all around the world and it was an honor & great fun for me to host this event!
Here’s a folder with videos too, where you can catch the night’s killer beats and rowdy atmosphere — thank you so much, wildalps!
Not content to merely host and emcee our Open Metaverse New Years’ Eve for the Americas, MLeeJr also introduces three generations of his real-world family to OM and its limitless potential—they’re undoubtedly all mfers now.

Just above we witness estimable 28thcenturyman at the tables, spinning us right ‘round the solar system. His impressions from the night:
it was an honor to do the last set of the year in the museum district – contributing to what the oncyber team has been building in oncyber this past year was a pleasure. it was a cool experience to be a part of
to see most of our friends that we usually communicate with on twitter or discord in the museum district was the highlight of my night – seeing mfers like meta b, sav4nt, and examiner mo breaking out dance moves together with their xcopy avatars was funny to see while i was dj’ing lol
lastly, i hope to be apart of future events on oncyber as It has become a cooler way to interact with art, music, and having discourse with friends we know all in one
28’s description is unbeatable. It’s a distillation of what makes the experience of visiting and celebrating together in OM ineffably fantastic. Underlying the quirks of this virtual world—its modest range of motion and interactivity, its minimalism alternated with sensory overload—is a foundation for meeting friends with shared values: other people (or fellow summer.jpgs) who are interested in building a more inclusive and empowering world for all.
A funky-piano set is performed concurrently by pandelic in a nearby chill-out space, a customized version of fmiasp’s “Trillion Nights” gallery. His write-up of the experience playing a live, debut acoustic concert in the Open Metaverse accompanies a retrospective slideshow of SZN1’s meme cards, scored with Auld Lang Syne and available as an open edition (announcement) –

Somewhere off OM’s sun-soaked shores, the Obscura Yacht (designed by @Gart3_eth) braves the pixel waves, replete with a high-seas exhibition and a call for submissions honoring 42 extraordinary winners in all, including maxis art_icu_late and HugoFaz. Here’s a stunner of a snapshot by @azeezahonly:

Once more into the dance floor, my frens. ChrizRoc sees bright days ahead:

amtwo_eth soars:

anonshiller won’t stop:

Spliffy joins the mayhem:

—thanks to OM100m and 6529Museum for an unforgettable night 🚒

Bleary-eyed, some of us find ourselves back on solid ground the next morning, surrounded by a staggering spectacle of empty WAGMI bottles rolling to and fro. It’s the New Year all right, ushered in with an explosive, inevitable open edition by teexels (announcement) –

A bright and cheery top o’ the mornin’ to every mfer, dispatched by sartoshi_rip (gm) –

The Memes Outside series by art_icu_late returns with #9 alongside a cheeky admonishment:

And we’re greeted to a refreshing and vital three (3) new Meme categories to kick off the new SZN:
* Survive
* Not your keys, not your coins
* Digital Rights Charter
Freedom has been a hot topic in every age since at least ancient India circa the 5th century BCE. Through the swirling philosophies of spirituality and ethics that coalesced — from untold generations of oral histories — into the Bhagavad Gita, students of the text have encountered a remarkably omniscient, compassionate offering of answers. The sprawling and sometimes cryptic Gita addresses not only the question of “how should one live?” as contemplated contemporaneously by the ancient Chinese and Greeks, but also, more comprehensively, what it means to experience freedom, and which kind, for there are two types to distinguish: the freedom to live and do things, versus a freedom from desires, fear, and attachment — those very obstacles within ourselves blocking us from true liberation.
In both senses of the concept, few are as free as Cath Simard, whose singular intensity of life-pursuit fixes her compass on explorations both inner- and other-worldly.
For weeks at a time, Simard treks desolate wilds in feats of immense mental and physical fortitude, outdoing each previous journey with a newly conceptualized merging of art and nature: boundless imagination, melded with the bounty of the universe.
SZN2 duly commences with the one-and-only Cath Simard (a.k.a. the Queen of Winter) as chaperone, with assistance from @creyety, in immaculate execution of the “Freedom to Transact” meme category.

The breathtaking full-resolution version of this animation — with music entirely apropos to an ice cavern from the matrix — is worth watching beyond its 30-second runtime: looped and broadcast across oppressive regimes the world over is more like it.
Embedded in the cascading ether of ideograms is a cipher: collect all references you can, or consult Simard’s helpful guide.
The Maxis flex their northern exposures, starting with g9ralt’s “Freedom to Rememe” (announcement) –

fmiasp opening a new portal to the Open Metaverse with “OM Freedom Ahead” (announcement) –

And “3D Summer Glasses with Headlamps” by mememaxis possibly proving handy in any metaverse, real or imagined, but especially wherever the rains are foggily lit (announcement) –

Yumpling_ puts together a tribute gallery to meme cards, with assistance from @specificobj (announcement) –

The open-edition “StolenGM” gives a different spin to the idea of seizing memes, courtesy pal_302 (announcement) -

And animatedmfers reminds us of the long, storied legacy of this movement by this historical painting from 1830:

Our ongoing survey of the week’s artwork by diverse and talented creators is imbued this week with a touch of heightened awareness. “Build in Crypto Winter” by gmmoneyETH inspires us to odyssey on despite hardship (with a stunning behind-the-scenes recount) –

“Holiday Love Edition” by Zigmarillion in collaboration with @jmpailhon celebrates our fires eternal (announcement) –

“Critters” by MeltedMindz and @rosejade_eth communicate a special shade of love’s nuances (announcement) –

Burnasso sends us thoughts that can be knotted into a knapsack and carried with us for the upcoming voyage:
gm fam
never give up in life there is always a way and a solution to give up means to have lost faith and love for yourself each one of us may fall but it’s up to us to get up again and keep going no one said the path will be easy but we must never give up on ourselves

intrepid_p’s enthralling showcase of photography NFTs sold this year — here’s “Salt” from his “SuperReal” collection:

His new offering confronts us squarely with our own existence: “Uluru Moonrise” (announcement) –

…and “In the Beginning” welcomes us to 2023 by jumping off his first collected piece from 2022, this first open edition which is still currently available (announcement) –

“The Starry Night”, inspired by Vincent van Gogh and beautifully rendered by g9ralt (announcement) –

“Connections” celebrates aventurine_eth’s first foray into generative artworks (announcement) –

NatalieShau’s Phantasm collection is an edge-to-edge gallery of unforgettable pieces that may invite themselves into your dreams, day or night (announcement of “nightmare”) –

“Firestone” by priyankap_patel reflects a difficult personal journey, channeled into catharsis through inner light:

“Lost in Time” by Crazydoc96 offers an abstract retrospective of lives already lived (announcement) –

And “LIFT OFF” by DrenFx summons the stratosphere while honoring the moment of our ignition, a piece that also marks his debut in NFT art (announcement) –
