So, you're into photography. Me too! And here's what I've learned over the years: photography bonds people together in a totally unique way. I recently hung out with someone who I had only met though Instagram. He lives on the other side of the world. When he came to Los Angeles, we made a point of getting together, with no assurances that we'd even get along or enjoy each others' company. But of course we did. Because photography. Photography cues very specific human qualities: there's the detailed and obsessive parts of it that we cross over on - like shooting styles, opinions on focal lengths, sensors and settings. But there's also the creative part; the joy of shooting. There's no other joy quite like it. If you are a person capable of walking around a city alone, observing people, light and architecture, then I already know we can hang, for a long time. There's also the subject matter crossover, where the photography is really only a representation of our love for something else: landscapes, human rights, sports or otherwise. And then there's also the thing that people within any industry share in common: we are all thinking about the discipline of photography, observing the shifts in it, the new ways to do it, do it well, get noticed, display our work and get clients.
That's a lot of crossover.
So, this site is a place for people who a) all share the passion for photography and b) want to delve into it, similarly.
Also, I am one of those people who went from being a stills-only photographer to building up a book of business as a filmmaker, too. I think it's a natural to include filmmaking in the discussion and I'll be providing not only my thoughts and journey through stills, but video as well. For anyone either in that same journey, or thinking about it, hopefully my experience crossing over can be a help.
I'm looking forward to getting rolling. If you're reading this, I already know we're going to get along famously. See you in the next one.
Everything is going to be amazing.
