Discipline
I have recently been pondering the idea set forth by Jocko Willink that discipline is freedom. Like, a lot. It suggests that by embracing discipline...

Pulling some levers
Hi-de-ho friends. It took a little longer than expected, partially due to getting that old C-19 bug on the plane, but I am back home in Japan and finally getting in the rhythm again. Levers are getting pulled, so it is time for an update.

I find great value when applying what I mentioned in yesterdays brief post during two very specific occasions:
Morning walks
Staying in hotels on business
The first one is pretty self-explanatory, the second maybe less so.
Let's talk about #1. Look, I get it repetition can get boring (commutes, walks, washing the dishes, etc.) and I have been know two enjoy a podcast or two during these times, but where is the time to think?
I'm not talking about lying in bed stressing about the day behind you and the other one in front of you kind of thinking, but actual dedicated time to think. Though, with no expectations, the kind where you just let your mind wander and see where it takes you. We used to call that daydreaming when I was a kid.
There was a time very recently when I took a step back and realized that from pretty much the moment I woke up to to when I went to bed, I was receiving constant input. Input created by someone else. Even if it was only headphones, it was there.
So now I take walks in the morning with no inputs. The alpha is this is super valuable. It's turned into my idea time, and the output is magnificent. Highly recommended.
What about #2? To be continued...
