Dear AFAR Community,
A while back, we shared our 2022 Roadmap with you — an overview of where we’re going as a team and with A Far Away Realm for the rest of the year. In response, many of you reached out with questions about details and specific events and features we indicated. In this post, we will answer the most frequent and pressing questions we received across all our social channels. In case you have questions left or would like to know more, as always, don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone from the team over on our Discord channel.
AFAR is a unique third-person platform game, accessible through PC or browser, that combines elements of arcade and shooter gameplay with blockchain technology. Players get to build, create and compete against each other — in 4-minute battles of 4 rounds, each consisting of a mix of obstacle courses and shooting elements, Afarians race to the finish line: the next spaceship leaving the planet.

The mining game will kickstart the game’s economy around our upcoming coin launch and is a cornerstone to AFAR’s economy in general — it’s an essential activity and the source of all value and delivery of cosmetic items to the community. It is also the primary acquisition loop for precious EGGs that, next to resources, contain cosmetic NFTs. To mine, players send their hero of choice to faraway planets to scout for RESOURCE LAND. Here, they build a mining camp on the plot of land and select one of their pets to start digging the earth for the rare goods. Through mining, players gain resources that allow them to build the game’s meta world.
AFAR’s mining mini-game is set to launch in Q2 this year. We will reveal more details (exact date, how to participate, etc.) in a standalone blog post, so stay tuned!
The AFAR Land Sale will go hand in hand with the launch of the mining game in Q2. We will provide you with many more updates — the amount of land for sale, the prices and how to purchase or rent land, etc. — over on our social channels.
Our $token is set to launch in Q2, along with the land sale and the mining game. Tokens allow players to interact with many in-game features, such as the purchasing of land and NFTs, upgrading and expanding their mining operations, or purchasing spaceships. In the future, we will extensively address AFAR’s tokenomics, our take on deflationary mechanics and how they will support the price of the reward token.
Currently, although a little early in the process, we don’t have a Whitelist allocation or an Airdrop system in place. We, of course, plan to reward community members for their loyalty in many ways. For that reason, we will be launching a Whitelist campaign before every big event or AFAR feature release. The first one — the Land PRE-SALE — will coincide with our upcoming land sale. We will communicate updates on how to get whitelisted via our social channels!
At Lava Labs, we run an enormous amount of tests on every little feature, to ensure the best possible outcome for our community. The same holds true for our Ambassador Program!
We’ve executed one test run to date and will continue with small test runs going forward. If you’re an avid content creator and would like to introduce your community to AFAR, then this is just the right thing for you! Head over to our Discord announcement channel for info on our next ambassador recruiting wave.
The AFAR main game alpha is set to launch in Q4 2022. Even though this is still quite far ahead, it’s extremely important to us to have members of our community debug and share feedback on our game through proper gameplay tests. We will announce many Alpha Passes going forward — together with our community, we will shape AFAR to deliver the best possible experience to enthusiasts around the globe.
The AFAR main game will be freely accessible to all players — no start-up costs or other obstacles that would prevent new players from entering and participating in A Far Away Realm. For that reason, for now, we don’t see the need for a premium scholarship program. AFAR will be a free-to-play game with a focus on player diversity, attracting gamers and crypto-enthusiasts alike. However, to get the most out of the game, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the crypto market before embarking on your journey.
The safety of our players and our entire community is extremely important to us at Lava Labs and we’re doing everything in our power to create a safe environment for everyone.
