Imagine this. You live in California, the most diverse state in America! This Diversity also includes the environment. You have the snowy mountains, plus, inhumane heat that can make the air feel thick as glue! The only thing that keeps you in California is the nice coastal waters.
Before you go about your day, you follow a daily routine of getting out of bed, washing your face, then heading out. Right when you turn the faucet to allow that nice, supposedly clean, water to touch your hands, the most disgusting smell leaves the faucet…..
A couple years back I noticed the water coming out of the faucet became quite different, in terms of taste and smell. It somewhat smells like a mix of cow manure, grass, and some type of earthy environment that I’ve only smelt or seen in a dream. This isn’t only at one sink, but multiple sinks throughout the house. You can only imagine, as a reader, the horror’s of starting your day with a face-full of stench!
Now you may assume that “Bacteria [is] growing in the drain,” however, neighbors and others in the community have the same problem (I won’t list the exact area of where I live due to privacy matters, however I will say it’s in northern California). It suddenly dawned upon me that the building of houses and constant construction nearby, could be the cause of this! Perhaps dirt entered the pipes; if this is the case, then wouldn’t it be possible to purge the dirt by letting water run? Unfortunately this didn’t work. As you can once again imagine, I actually let all the sinks run for a good 10 minutes (of course I had help from fellow family members). Although this was a waste of water, it was a great failed attempt (A person’s health is important, and humans need clean water!)
With, High everything in California(tax, gas, etc.…), plus the deteriorating quality of the state in terms of environment, law(s) and so forth, I’m realizing California, “The Golden State, isn’t so Golden.” The only thing that keeps me here is the diversity of culture, and nice sunset by the ocean/sea cliffs. Other than that, I question myself:
“Is it really worth-it to stay in ‘The Golden State’?“
