Gitcoin's mission is to "Fund What Matters". That started with Quadratic Funding on Gitcoin Grants, and over the last couple years, has evolved into Direct Grants, Retroactive Public Goods Funding, Hackathons, Educational Accelerators, and other things that builders need as their projects grow up.
Over the years, these tools have generated tens of millions of funding for builders.
One area I'm interested in exploring is how Angel Investing and Impact Investing can become more crypto native. In what ways can we build a movement of Impact or Angel Investors who Fund What Matters to them and can track that impact over time?
Perhaps by approaching the problem from first principles, we will discover other opportunities to create more Impact Investing or Angel Investing.
Perhaps this will result in the creation of a tool transforming how the web3 community backs budding crypto projects by leveraging Gitcoin's unique dataset to pinpoint rising stars in the space. Like AngelList Syndicates, with a token-native twist, it proposes a platform where users not only support but potentially gain from the projects they believe in through 'hypercerts' or token-based incentives.
As regen goods begin to flourish with increased retroactive funding, this system could become the seedbed for their growth, offering governance tokens, Impact Certs, or HyperCerts to early backers.
We’ve already seen Gitcoin Grants be a positive signal for value-creation. Uniswap, Gelato Network (plus many more!), all raised funds early in their journey on Gitcoin Grants. What if we took the same model that’s worked with Gitcoin and apply it to Angel networks? Can we fund what matters from Cradle to Unicorn?
Three Questions for you:
Is this an interesting category of exploration? , Yes or no? Would this be an interesting category to design around? (if so, please subscribe to this MVP as positive signal)
How do we Curate great projects? Where have you found the last couple of projects you’ve angled for? Where have you found the best impact investing opportunities?
How might we optimize for Signal? When angel investing, what signal (onchain and offchain) gets you the most excited about a project?
