Sarama
In all these years, I had never wondered about Vibhisena’s wife. I got called to her attention via the dud movie, Adhipurush, where she plays an important part in Lakshmana’s recovery from Indrajit’s vicious attack. She is the one who raises to Rama’s attention, the existence of the Sanjeevani herb that can serve as an antidote to the poisonous wound. This beautiful character garnered controversy for the wrong reasons. Sarama is known to have had a close relationship with Sita when she was at...
Happy 47th AK
AK would have been 47.. but alas! Still in my fond memories. Rushing to catch the same 5B bus as she would, walking back from Adyar Signal for a short furlong or two to Parameshwari Nagar and then a long trek back to my place.. Some things last such a short clock time and yet they last a lifetime in memory. This is an inversion of the Pareto principle where the most memorable incidents are also some of the most extreme emotions that one feels, whether pain, joy, success or of course, love. Re...

There was a point in time in the game vs. Australia where KL Rahul could have gotten a victory for India and a century for himself. It came close. India needed 5 to win and Rahul needed 10 for his century. The only way to get both was to score a 4 and then a 6, in that order. A 6 would get India to victory whereas a 4 would tie it and then he could score a 6 to get 5 runs surplus of the target but a 100* for himself. What does he do?
He calculates to get a 4 but times the shot too well that it goes for 6, leaves him stranded at 97, never mind that India got to a win.
What’s wrong with this picture? Self over country, personal milestone over net run rate for India, sealing the win vs. deferring it for a record. Such is the impact of the commercialization of Cricket. The guy who secured a win for India with a flawless knock and an equally flawless shot is kneeling in disappointment.
I feel Rahul should be suspended for his attitude. Kohli was graceful with his 85, acknowledged the crowd and returned to the pavilion even expressed a tinge of disappointment watching the replay. But that was because he wanted to take India through, not necessarily indicative of his not getting a 100, even if that played a minor role.

Sorry, bad attitude and a horrible example, Rahul.
