Sarama
In all these years, I had never wondered about Vibhisena’s wife. I got called to her attention via the dud movie, Adhipurush, where she plays an important part in Lakshmana’s recovery from Indrajit’s vicious attack. She is the one who raises to Rama’s attention, the existence of the Sanjeevani herb that can serve as an antidote to the poisonous wound. This beautiful character garnered controversy for the wrong reasons. Sarama is known to have had a close relationship with Sita when she was at...
Happy 47th AK
AK would have been 47.. but alas! Still in my fond memories. Rushing to catch the same 5B bus as she would, walking back from Adyar Signal for a short furlong or two to Parameshwari Nagar and then a long trek back to my place.. Some things last such a short clock time and yet they last a lifetime in memory. This is an inversion of the Pareto principle where the most memorable incidents are also some of the most extreme emotions that one feels, whether pain, joy, success or of course, love. Re...

You know what comes after the first step?
There is essential insight into this. Don’t look too far, you have taken one step, time for the next. That’s all there is to know sometimes. Especially when the destination or goal is too far, all you need to do is know where you are going, then take one step after another. This is what you tell yourself in a marathon. This is what an Elephant herd in Africa does and this is what gets you to the destination ultimately.
If you miss a step, okay, take the next one. If you miss two then you are not moving, which gets you further away from the time to reach your destination or reach it at all.
Multiple things occurred today that reminded me of this simple fact.
Progress that needed to be made at work but I was not taking the 2nd or 3rd step. I decided that I am not going to take a big slog but take that 2nd step and I did. Then I went on to take the third, the fourth and finished it.
My running regiment that got rejuvenated with a new coach, a new training program. I had a rest day yesterday which I followed and began with a recovery run today. It was not as good as the day before, but why did it matter? It was a step. One in the right direction that moves me to my starting line 18 weeks from now.
I lost an important opportunity professionally, I could have let it go into a downward spiral, which I have done many a time. Not today. I took my first steps towards the next big one, which might be bigger or not. With no expectation or attachment on what that might me, I went on to take the next stride. What this holds, I don’t care, but step I will.
Take the next step. Beats not taking one all day every day time and again.
