Isaiah 7:13–16 (NIV)
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,
16 for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.”
Way before Christ was born, Isaiah prophesied about our Savior’s birth. Think about it. This promise coming from God, delivered by His prophet Isaiah, was 700 years in the making.
We humans always think in the short term. Our lives are like a breath of air in the grand scheme of things. The insignificance of the time we live compared to the timeframe God works in shows the impatience we sometimes fall into—simply because of our limited perspective.
As believers in Christ, we are called to start thinking differently. In Christ, we gain eternal life. That means our timeframe is no longer just decades—it is eternity.
While there are still short-term goals to work toward, we must also think about the long game and live our lives according to what truly lasts.
Lengthening our timeframe brings us to something we often struggle with: patience.
In this age where everyone is racing to move faster, where everything feels urgent and immediate, the “I want it now” mindset puts our trust in the Lord to the test.
When God speaks, He invites us to respond with faith.
Through the stories in the Bible and the testimonies of those who have experienced His love, He has already shown us that He has never—and will never—abandon us.
God kept His promise. He sent Jesus to live among us—to be our guide, our blessed sign, the fulfillment of what He spoke through the prophets.
And when Jesus returned to be at God’s side, He left us the Holy Spirit to guide us and allow us to communicate directly with Him.
That shows us something powerful:
Our God is not distant.
He is still present.
He is still speaking.
He is still walking with us.
Let’s take time today to give thanks that our God still holds us in such high regard—we who are His creation.
Appreciate all that the Lord has blessed you with.
Fix your eyes on Him.
Thank You, Jesus, for being our blessed sign.
