8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From having heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.
9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.
Today’s scripture reading from Luke spoke to my heart. I do feel at times in my excitement that Jesus is always with me that He will perform some sort of sign or show me exactly what I want.
As I plead and beg for that specific answer, Jesus gives me no answer.
The first instinct is always fear and doubt. Not the feeling that He does not exist — but more a feeling of:
“Have I been so sinful that God has decided I need to struggle without Him through this period?”
The Israelites grumbled and groaned against God and He turned His face from them for centuries. Sometimes in the silence, I do wonder if God is turning His face from me.
Whenever that thought comes though, a louder voice always echoes through me:
I have full faith in the Lord my God.
It is in this silence that faith is built. How we react to it shows us how much trust we truly have in Him.
I am reminded of a sermon I heard weeks ago — even when we think nothing is happening, God is working in the background for us.
In the waiting, we learn to trust Him more.
As humans, we will always look for signs and miracles. Wanting these things is not wrong — God did promise blessings and told us to ask.
But we must not lose track of our main focus.
It is not in the miracles that we place our hope.
It is in the One who allows and makes the miracles happen.
As the weekend starts, take time to appreciate the moments where there is no answer.
Hang on firmly to God.
Remind yourself:
No answer now does not mean no answer forever.
For in faith, He will give us what we ask for — according to His will.
Have a blessed weekend ahead.
Smile knowing that we are all covered by the blood of Jesus. ❤️
