Richie is the co-founder and CEO of Clarity and Quests. Quests lets contributors create a professional landing page to showcase their best work, verified by their peers and is made by the team behind Clarity.
We start by talking about Richie’s experiences as a freelancer and independent worker many years ago. He talks about why he decided to pursue independent work and some of the challenges he faced along the way. One realization he had while using freelancer marketplaces like Fiverr and Upwork is that these marketplaces aren’t actually conducive to freelancers being adequately compensated for their work.
Another observation he made during his time as an independent worker was that our traditional methods of verifying proof of work are perhaps outdated. Richie proposes a self-credentialing methodology that he believes to be more effective and robust. This is a missing piece of the puzzle that Quests aims to fill.
Finally, we talk about what the future of independent work could look like in Richie’s ideal world, the aspects of independent work he’s most excited to see change, and whether Richie would ever go back to being a freelancer.
