AI as a Tool for Creating Art: Embracing the Legacy of Duchamp's Readymades

"I am", the first piece in the Binary Emotions collection, was born from a moment of pure joy. What started as a playful experiment — translating a short eight-word poem into binary code for a post on Farcaster — quickly evolved into something much greater.
The simplicity of binary, combined with the emotion of a poem, proved so compelling that it led to the creation of a dynamic digital artwork and the idea for a full collection of binary code poems.
At the heart of "I am" lies the duality of code: a language of zeros and ones that can be both technical and deeply expressive.
Binary code reduces any text to its most fundamental essence, yet it can still preserve the emotion and meaning of the original. In "I am," this essence comes to life through p5.js, which transforms static binary sequences into something vibrant and interactive.
The artwork serves as a visual metaphor: code (p5.js) gives movement, light, and glitch effects to the code itself (binary), symbolizing how emotion can be extracted even from seemingly technical data. The black background and glowing green numbers evoke the classic aesthetics of computer terminals, while the dynamic fade and glitch effects make each presentation unique, as if the binary poem were unfolding in real time.
The code dynamically adjusts the font size, ensuring the binary poem always fits perfectly on the screen, regardless of the device. Additionally, a glitch effect applied to the binary sequences adds an unpredictable, human touch to the piece, emphasizing the idea that art can emerge even from precise, technical systems.
The piece bridges two languages: binary, which represents the core of digital data, and programming code, which breathes life into that data. Together, these languages create a visual experience that invites the audience to see code not just as functional but as poetic.
"I am" is the first piece in the Binary Emotions collection, which will be launched on the Base blockchain. This collection aims to explore how binary code can transcend its original purpose and become a form of artistic expression. Each piece will be a poem translated into binary, animated, and interpreted through code.
This collection celebrates the union of art and technology, showcasing that even in its most technical form, code can carry emotion, narrative, and beauty.
We invite you to join us on this journey through the Binary Emotions collection. Each piece will tell a unique story, revealing how zeros and ones can transform into something profoundly human. Stay tuned for the release of future works and discover how art and technology intertwine to create innovative experiences.
Follow along as we explore the boundary between data and emotion. After all, code is art at its finest.
