Community is the most important job in web3. Jean Carlos is running a master class for sustainable community for Rug Radio. This week I’m running a profile and interview with Jean Carlos. He is responsive and knowledgeable and friendly. The Rug Radio socials never been hacked, despite being targeted many times. I interviewed JC over DMs.
1. What do you do for Rug Radio?
I'm the Head of Community; my job is to be the bridge between the community and the Core Team, and my day-to-day is to read all the community concerns across all socials and share them with the team, to route every concern to the correct department.
I help answer questions about the project, help with technical support, and solve most problems. I'm also in charge of the server's security and every other Rug Radio account. Because we're a large project, we get hackers impersonating the team and trying to raid the server to scam members and damage our public image; I make sure the community is protected.
I'm the person behind the Rug Radio Twitter account; in there, I make sure to like and RT all the good stuff about Rug Radio; I also help the Hosts get exposure to our community by joining their shows from that account.
I also keep track of any negative sentiment about the project and make sure the team knows about it so we can take care of it.
I also ensure the team has everything they need to make all the small things happen, like creating the Rug Radio snapshot account, help with the OpenSea verification, security, and many other things.
2. How did you find rug radio?
I've been following Farokh for over a year now and joined the server on day 1; on the first week, Farokh noticed that I was always helping the community with technical questions and sharing my knowledge, and one day asked me if I wanted to be a moderator for the server, I said yes, and now I'm here.
3. What do you like about Rug Radio’s vision?

I love that we're creating the first decentralized media platform and the idea of being part of something bigger than myself, a platform that will enable people from all backgrounds.
4. What makes you great at your job?
My work ethic.
5. What past experiences have you had that make you great at your job?
My background is Civil Engineer and Photographer/Videographer, but being a business owner is what made me great at what I do because you have to know about planning, strategy, finance, accounting, compliance, legal, marketing, customer service, hiring, and human resources, and the skills needed in a business. All this made me a great asset to the project.
