The hardest part is to start. It is brand new. There is unfamiliarity, ambiguity, and uncertainty. There are expectations. They bring pressure. Most of this is self-enforced. It is helpful to realize that no one else cares, not as much as you at least, about you or what you do, most of the time. When you feel like every little thing matters, it is useful to remember that nothing really does. That said, when you feel like nothing matters, it is useful to remember that every little thing does. Life is about balance. Words of wisdom are written in paradox. But I digress, back to the start…
If you wait until you are ready, you never will be. You have to start before you are ready. You have to get the first one done. That is what I am doing now. That is why I am writing this. I want to write and publish to the public. The only way to do that is to do that. The best time to start is now. Anytime you ever start anything, it will always be now.
Perfect is the enemy of done. It is better to have a solid start than a perfect nothing. It is easy to have a perfect nothing. You do not have to do anything. You may think you remain perfect because you have yet to make a mistake, because you have yet to start, but the not starting is the mistake in and of itself. The not starting is usually a worse mistake than any mistake you might make in starting. So why don’t you just start?
This all makes it sound easy and obvious. It may sound that way, but it is not. It is hard to start. That is why it is important to start. You may agree with most of this in theory. You may say that you will start, soon. But neither of those things are starting. Each comes with a probability that you may or may not start, at some point. Starting now is one hundred percent.
With this post, I have started writing, but as I am still writing I have not started publishing. I must publish to say I have started writing and publishing to the public, like I want to do, and like I will do. I could make more edits. I could write more words. I will resist both, for the sake of starting. It is hard, but it need not take long. I am not ready, so I am ready to start. The time is now, the only time to start. If I don’t start now, I may start never. I have to publish now if I want to make sure. It’s the click of a button away. It’s time I start.
