Monday on “Why Art?” with SHILLR | Presented by wildxyz ✨
We had a great chat with Mitchell F. Chan about his creative journey and upcoming project "The Boys of Summer" via wildxyz
Art has an interesting relationship with data, and Mitchell breaks down why 🔽
“Do you trust yourself to really actually make that distinction of connoisseurship in the face of this empirical quantitative data that is telling you one is more valuable? I don't know. So I would just say that a lot of times I think the quantification of things is really at odds with any qualitative connoisseurship.” - Mitchell F. Chan, Why Art? w/ SHILLR [Presented by Wildxyz].

Thursday on GENERAT3D we had an insightful chat with Professor Jun!
In this clip, Jun takes us to the moment he realized that his recent "Threads" project took on a life of its own 🔽
“While I was exploring these threads, I saw shapes appearing on my screen. And at this moment when this started to appear, I understood that these threads will be an exploration of all the possibilities that can occur. With these threads, it can look like a woven piece, it can look like knots. Sometimes it looks like calligraphy and so on.” - Professor Jun, GENERAT3D w/ SHILLR.

‘From the Archives’ is to showcase an art gm artist, who has not yet been featured on the SHILLR Weekly Recap as part of Bernardo’s Art Café. This week’s artist is Rare Force (@wheresrare). Thread originally posted Jan 24, 2023.

Rare is a digital painter who draws inspiration from trad art to frequently present a robotic dog, Spot, in historical scenarios which adds a modern context to past work. They also often collab with neural networks to abstract ideas then paint them from the ground up.

Rare's work feels special to me because of their ability to beautifully juxtapose concepts, like placing Spot in a 19th century home to console their disheartened owner. Rare makes the robotic Spot look organic and leaves me with a feeling that Spot belongs in these scenes.

A perfect entry into Rare's catalogue of work is 'No begging', a playful piece done as a free OE during a space with BurritoDAO.
This edition is relatively unknown yet one of my favorites. At the time of this post, they are available for 0.02 ETH.

If I had unlimited ETH, I would shoot for 'Spot hunting (slight overkill)' - owned by otherworld_xx. This piece speaks for itself and is a perfect display of Rare's style. One of those pieces that makes you stop & wonder - when is this taking place?

You should check out Rare's catalogue because IMO their robo dog motif makes them unique. Rare's use of Spot is brilliant and I haven't even touched on their Experiments in Posture, which could be another thread on it's own. Keep a close eye on Rare & Spot, I know I will!

If you're interested in checking out other artists I've featured or would like to recommend someone I should look into, head over to the below thread. Thanks for reading! ☕️ ✨ 💚

Hey kid, looks like you're searching for some art. Come see what I have in store 👇
