Sound.xyz is Entering Maintenance Mode
Preserving what’s built, while focusing on what’s next. As of today, Sound is officially entering maintenance mode. As announced last week on X, we’ll be disabling new uploads and artist onboarding. But all existing drops will remain live, and artists can still withdraw their earnings at any time. This decision wasn’t made lightly—but it’s the clearest way to preserve what’s working without slowing down the future we’re building. What’s ChangingFans can still listen, browse, and collectArtists...

Introducing Sound Protocol
When we built Sound, the vision and mission was to create a world where any artist has complete creative control of their art and career without compromising the ability to own the relationship with their audience. In order to do right by artists and their communities, we had to make careful product decisions that allowed us to test our hypotheses about the future of music in a way that would allow us to generate real insights without sacrificing the trust of musicians, listeners, and collect...

We’re excited to introduce the Viral Sounds chart. Now you can discover and listen to the songs on Sound that are resonating most with our community in real-time.
Unlike our existing Top Sounds chart, this new chart incorporates a variety of factors in addition to sales volume – like play count, curation stats, unique collectors, and more – to highlight the songs that are rapidly rising in popularity on Sound beyond sales volume.
You’ll find familiar stats like the streak of a song (the number of weeks that the song placed on the chart) and whether a song has entered the chart for the first time or has risen or fallen from prior weeks.
Navigate back in history to see which songs placed on the charts in prior weeks.
We’ve added our own unique spin by showcasing the top collectors of each song and a preview of recent activity for the song. As a top collector, everyone will see your avatar on the charts.
By integrating the standard methodology of sales volume sorting that’s pervasive in web3 with data points that show the reach of a particular song, the Viral Sounds chart introduces another way to discover emerging artists and songs on Sound.
We’ll continue to iterate and improve our methodology to best reflect the songs that are reaching the most people on Sound – not only in terms of sales volume but also based on how many people are listening and curating the song.
We’re starting with Viral Sounds, but we plan on introducing Viral Playlists and Artists in the coming months.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on Viral Sounds!
