MetaVaults - Bringing Curators to the Yield Tokenization Sector
At Spectra, we’ve spent the last years building the most complete permissionless ecosystems for yield tokenization. However, despite the growth, we’ve encountered real UX challenges - some stemming from the inherent nature of fixed-term markets, others resulting from our own design choices. This piece is about how MetaVaults aim to solve some of the toughest frictions we’ve faced. But before we get into what they unlock, it’s worth being honest about what hasn’t worked and how we’re approachi...

$SPECTRA: Migration is now live
The Spectra DAO concluded a SIP3 vote on December 16, 2024, to migrate APW to a new ticker, $SPECTRA, update tokenomics, and deploy its governance-related contracts on the Base Network. Perspective SAS (Spectra’s DevCo) deployed the necessary infrastructure and interface for existing APW and veAPW holders, allowing for a seamless migration to SPECTRA and veSPECTRA. 23 July 2024 Incident Post-Mortem
On July 23, 2024, at approximately 3:00 PM UTC, an attack targeted Spectra's router contract. The attacker managed to hijack user transactions, resulting in a loss of around 168 ETH. The attack occurred on Ethereum Mainnet, and our team’s swift reaction enabled us to limit the effects as a total of 4 wallets were impacted. The core protocol contracts remain unaffected, and the funds inside them are safe. The Spectra App (https://app.spectra.finance/) was reinstated in the morning CET hou...

At Spectra, we've pioneered permissionless yield tokenization with Principal Tokens (PTs) and Yield Tokens (YTs), creating a robust ecosystem for use cases including fixed-rate, yield-leverage, and liquidity-provision in fixed-term markets.
Today, we're thrilled to announce the official launch of MetaVaults - a transformative upgrade that addresses longstanding challenges in fixed-term markets and unlocks new growth opportunities.
MetaVaults are now live on the Spectra App at app.spectra.finance/metavaults
MetaVaults represent the most significant advancement in DeFi yield infrastructure since the introduction of PTs and YTs. By introducing curated, perpetual vaults, we eliminate the friction of expiring pools, streamline user interactions, and empower a new layer of ecosystem participants: curators.
This launch marks a pivotal milestone, shifting Spectra from fragmented, maturity-bound pools to a seamless, compounding system that retains capital, enhances yields, and fosters sustainable expansion.
With MetaVaults, Spectra is poised to lead the yield tokenization sector, attracting more users, projects, and integrations while supercharging protocol TVL and efficiency.
MetaVaults deliver tailored advantages to every participant, creating a virtuous cycle of engagement and growth:
For Liquidity Providers (LPs): Deposit once and forget the hassle of monitoring expiries or manual rollovers. MetaVaults automatically handle market rotations and redirect YT yield into additional LP tokens for compounding effect. Liquidity providers receive a single receipt token that reflects a MetaVault position and accumulated yield. This results in a higher rate potential, passive exposure, and no need to manage YTs directly.
For Projects and Asset Issuers: Say goodbye to repetitive pool-deployment announcements and TVL drops at expiration. MetaVaults provide a permanent vault address for effortless integrations, user onboarding, and communications. Curators can operate vaults on behalf of projects, ensuring consistent liquidity and momentum without requiring frequent resets.
For Curators: MetaVaults introduces a curation model into the yield tokenization layer, as used in lending protocols such as Morpho and Euler. Curators manage reallocations, rollovers, and optimizations, earning transparent fees while building track records. They gain tools for efficient liquidity management, deeper integrations with lending stacks, and organic engagement through the Spectra App.
For Traders: Seamless liquidity transitions across fixed-term pools result in a greater pool depth over time. MetaVaults ensure efficient trading continuity, setting the stage for upcoming features like order books.
For the Spectra Protocol: MetaVaults drive more resilient TVL growth, immune to expiry cycles. The curator layer amplifies business development, ecosystem integrations, and overall activity, while positioning Spectra's vaults at the top of trackers like DeFiLlama through compounded YT-to-LP redirection.

Users can explore and participate in the following curated vaults:
vbUSDC MetaVault, curated by ClearstarLabs on behalf of Katana: This vault optimizes yield across key Katana pools, enabling seamless transitions and automatic YT capture. Explore it here.
USDC MetaVault, curated by @GamiLabs: Focused on USD-pegged pools across chains, it ensures smooth liquidity shifts and YT compounding. Explore it here.
We invite teams, DAOs, and aspiring curators to connect with us via Discord or X to learn more about launching your own MetaVault and accessing the upcoming Curator App.
MetaVaults are curated, asynchronous vaults, meaning deposits and withdrawals are processed in batches via curator settlement. The UX is intentionally “request → settle → claim” to keep vault accounting clean while the liquidity is routed to fixed-term pools.
Request a deposit on the MetaVault page.
Your liquidity is queued for inclusion (they’re not instantly converted into a vault position).
Curator settles the vault
During settlement, queued deposits are converted into the MetaVault vault token.
Claim your MetaVault receipt token (MV token).
After settlement, you can claim your receipt token from the MetaVault UI.
This receipt token represents your pro-rata ownership of the MetaVault (and moves up over time as yield compounds into the vault position).
You can track whether your request is still queued or ready to claim on:
MetaVault page, and
Portfolio → MV tab (MetaVaults).
Request withdrawal (requires holding the MetaVault receipt token in your wallet).
The withdrawal is queued until the curator settles.
Curator settles the vault.
The vault curator uses available idle liquidity or unwinds the necessary liquidity and finalizes the withdrawal accounting.
Claim withdrawn assets on the MetaVault page.
Withdrawals are not auto-sent to a wallet. The withdrawal token (e.g. USDC) needs to be manually claimed back into the wallet via the MetaVault page.
Yield accrual begins once a deposit is included in a curator settlement, regardless of whether the user has claimed the MetaVault receipt token.
Example:
Mar 1, 2026: a deposit is requested into MetaVault XYZ
Mar 2, 2026: the curator settles; the deposit becomes part of the vault
Apr 2, 2026: the MV receipt token is claimed
In this flow, the yield generated between Mar 2 and Apr 2 remains attributable to the position. Claiming primarily affects portability and usability (e.g., transfers, integrations, and initiating withdrawals), rather than determining when yield begins to accrue.
Claiming isn’t required to accrue yield, but it is required to:
Request a withdrawal (withdrawals are driven by the receipt token balance)
Track the position cleanly in Portfolio
Use the receipt token across DeFi (transfer, collateral, integrations, etc.)
The launch of MetaVaults opens the door for projects, DAOs, teams, and independent curators to create and operate their own vaults - building onchain businesses, curating top-tier yield strategies, and earning fees while contributing to Spectra’s growth.
If you’re a protocol looking to offer a perpetual, always-live liquidity front door for your yield-bearing assets, or if you’re an experienced DeFi operator ready to step into the curator role and manage fixed-term capital flows, now is the time to get started.
How to create your MetaVault:
Head to the Spectra App: app.spectra.finance/metavaults
Click the [Create MetaVault] button
Complete the form with your vault details (name, description, target pools/strategies, fee structure, etc.).
Our team will review submissions promptly and guide you through the deployment process. Early creators will have priority access to support, visibility in the app, and the upcoming dedicated Curator App for performance tracking and reputation building.
