In a society increasingly shaped and driven by digital transformation, where conformity and standardization often take precedence, it is crucial to recognize and appreciate the value of non-standard personalities. While the majority may conform to what is considered “normal” or within the range of 2 standard deviations (2SD), it is the 5% of individuals who deviate from this norm that contribute to the richness, diversity, and progress of our society. In this short writing, I aim to shed some light on the significance of embracing and nurturing non-standard personalities in our modern digitally transforming world.

Let’s get to some assumptions and facts.

The 5%: Breaking the Mold

The mentioned 5% of “not-norms” represents the individuals who possess unique qualities, unconventional perspectives, and extraordinary talents that defy societal norms. These peoples challenge the status quo, pushing boundaries and paving the way for innovation and creativity. By accepting their distinct personalities, people can tap into a wealth of untapped potential and reap the benefits of their exceptional contributions.

Diversity and Innovation

In a digitally transforming society, innovation is principal. By encouraging non-standard personalities, we foster a diverse and inclusive environment that stimulates fresh ideas and unconventional approaches. These brave individuals bring forth alternative perspectives, challenging conventionally accepted wisdom and driving the power of progress. It is through their eagerness to explore the uncharted territories of thought that breakthroughs and new trends in technology, science, healthcare, and the arts are often achieved.

Emotional Intelligence and Empathy

So-called sometimes “weird” personalities (Weirdoes 😊 like me, according to my wife) often possess heightened emotional intelligence and empathy, traits that are increasingly valuable in a society where human connections are challenged by digital interfaces. These deeply fascinating individuals can perceive and fathom emotions beyond the ordinary “norms” level, enabling them to maintain deep connections with others. In a world where virtual interactions can sometimes feel cold and detached, the ability to empathize and relate on a deeper level becomes even more significant.

Resilience and Adaptability (but not always the case)

“Non-up-to-norms” characters usually demonstrate remarkable resilience and adaptability. They have experienced the discomfort of not completely fitting into societal cavities, and as a result, have developed the ability to embrace change and overcome obstacles. Their unique perspectives allow them to imagine solutions and navigate complex challenges in ways that mainstream people may not even consider. In a digitally transforming society, where change is constant, these qualities become invaluable and priceless.

Exceptional Entrepreneurial Spirit

Non-standard peoples often exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit that fuels innovation, progress, and economic growth. These individuals possess a natural tendency to challenge commonly existing and ruling norms and take less or more calculated risks. They also very often may be unpredictable by “normal” algorithms 😊. Their stamina to pursue unconventional paths and create new ventures can lead to the development of ground-breaking and Nobel Prize-like technologies, the establishment of disruptive businesses, and the massive generation of employment/unemployment opportunities. It depends on the scenario chosen. By embracing their innovative business model drive, we are usually promoting an environment that encourages progress, growth, and economic prosperity.

Cultural Enhancement and Artistic Expression

“Non-norms” contribute significantly to the improvement and refreshment of our cultural landscape. Through their unique artistic vision and expression, they challenge traditional forms and conventions, opening doors to new aesthetics, narratives, and creative possibilities. The NFTs hype may be one of the examples, followed by the global introduction of Large Language Models LLM like ChatGPT to “Norms”.  Whether it be through visual arts, music, literature, digital healthcare, finance, or performance, these geniuses push the boundaries of creativity and inspire others to think “out of the box”. They invite us to question, challenge, explore, and celebrate the diversity and freedom of the human spirit and independent expression.

To conclude or summarise…

I personally think that “Our Universe” is lucky with the existence of “not-norms”. It not only enriches our cultural landscape but also propel us forward in the realms of technology, science, and all aspects of arts.

Try for a moment imagine a reality where 100% of population represent and is driven by Norms! Is it sounds like utopia or dystopia to you? Only you can answer it.

By this time let us celebrate the small 5% who dare to differ from the norm and embrace the diversity that is the hallmark of a progressive and digitally transforming society.
