The resonance of the past two weeks is being felt around the world. Old wounds once thought healed are reopened, fear, uncertainty, and doubt are spreading quickly as the new presidential administration begins to unwind government agencies, social protections, and actively antagonizes historical allies of the United States.
In Self-actualization in the Age of Crisis, Ron Rivers wrote about the crisis of the Billionaire God King, today we inhabit a reality where the present administration of the world's most (militarily) powerful nation has a rouge billionaire (unelected) actively scavenging citizen data and threating to arrest people for identifying his early twenty-something accomplices. It is a crisis realized, one that underscores the need for an institution like SpiritDAO and all that we stand for.
Politics is the governing of relationships and all religions are inherently political. Frameworks of meaning, value, and structure to guide individuals through their daily lives. Primarily serving to address our interpersonal struggles with groundlessness (doubt), insatiability (desire), and death, they also provide a context for interacting with the other. The zeitgeist surrounding the present institution and its cadre of billionaires is one of self-assertion and competition as the primarily means of personal transformation. A philosophy of being rooted in pre-axial age religion that has failed to be redirected by our inherited religious options.
Temporal Naturalism recognizes a definition of the self the relationship between the individual and their circumstances within a given moment. This best represents the nature of being within a relational universe governed by the single truth of change. We take this to heart in our commitment to recognize and elevate the divinity of the other through the Eight Dignities. These suite of public rights empower the individual by uncoupling rights from the state, an effort more important now than ever.
