Patrons still exist in the current “royalties are optional” era we are currently living in.
We believe that it is important to recognize the importance of individuals that are participating in advancing the world of digital art forward as patrons.
It is equally important to acknowledge that while not mentioned specifically in this thread, there are many ways to be a patron, and we are celebrating you as well.
Additionally, the focus of this thread is to celebrate and highlight individuals for paying royalties on sales of Chromie Squiggles, we are NOT shaming or calling out anyone. Those who choose to not participate as patrons are free to do so and we hold no judgment.
The information contained in this thread is powered by Royal Patron and we are proud to partner with them to create tools to power a positive sum culture in digital art.

We believe that participating in the ecosystem of digital art using the technology of blockchain/NFTs as a patron is important to the advancement of this space, empowerment of artists, and building of thriving communities.
For further context, we align with Erick “Snowfro” Calderon and his opinion and approach to patronage within the space:

The history and discourse of artist royalties precedes NFTs and digital art. In the traditional art world it was always an impossible task to enforce royalties, however in the digital art world powered by NFTs, it was possible.
During the first big boom of NFTs, digital art creators had no problem with collecting royalties from secondary market sales. However, when the market dipped so did sentiment from collectors who weren’t willing to pay the “tax” of royalties anymore.
Since then we have seen collections, marketplaces, and artists all try to draw lines in the sand and it hasn’t gotten us anywhere. So where do we go from here?
We recognize that in the current climate of digital art, it is not expected to be a patron anymore. However, we want to intentionally recognize individuals for being a patron while honoring artist royalties for the Chromie Squiggle collection.
The following list of patrons represents sellers who have always honored royalties on 1 or more sales of Chromie Squiggles.
Note: This data excludes swaps, otc, and transfers. Relies on Farcaster account being connected to a wallet, and is single wallet analysis only.

We spoke with some individuals about why they chose to be a patron and honor artist royalties and this is what they had to say:
“Paying royalty fees on art NFTs and Chromie Squiggles ensures ongoing compensation for artists, promotes sustainable creativity, and supports the digital art market's integrity. It is a win-win situation for artists, platforms and collectors.” - @jmpailhon
“As an artist builds out a body of work, royalties provide a long tail of income that can reduce pressure on timelines, freeing them up to create art true to their vision. When I see an artist prioritizing the longevity of their career, it is particularly important for me to pay royalties. They’re signaling a promise to bring new and interesting things into the world of digital art, and I want to support that.” -@NedRyersonBing
"Royalties are the vehicle through which you can express your appreciation for the artist who brought your piece into existence. When artists are fairly compensated, they're more likely to continue producing innovative and high-quality work." - @robin
We are committed to cultivating a vibrant future for generative, on-chain art and we believe that participating in the ecosystem of digital art using the technology of blockchain/NFTs as a patron is an important part of that.
Be a part of a thriving future for digital art by sharing this post and giving us a follow.
We would like to thank Royal Patron for partnering with us on this project, they provided all of the data, were extremely thorough, and were a pleasure to work with.
We encourage other projects interested in highlighting or rewarding patrons to check them out.
