Tennis is a popular racket sport played by either two individuals (singles) or two teams of two players (doubles). The objective is to hit a ball over a net into the opponent's court in such a way that they cannot make a valid return, thereby scoring a point.
Key Rules and Gameplay
Court and Equipment: The game is played on a rectangular court (grass, clay, or hard surface) using strung rackets and a felt-covered hollow rubber ball.
Serving: A point begins with a serve from behind the baseline, which must land in the opponent's diagonally opposite service box. Players get two serves per point.
Returning: Once the ball is in play, players have a maximum of one bounce to return the ball over the net and within the court boundaries. Hitting the ball before it bounces is a "volley".
