The majority of crypto users are millennials. Don't get me wrong there are gen-x, gen-z, and even boomers and gen-a in crypto. But a vast majority are millennials. The key to a meme is crossing those generational barriers. Few things in history have existed long enough in the zeitgeist to pass from generation to generation. Often each generation has it's own thing. Every now and then though something is a monster hit and everyone gets into it. Then if its truly original and unique it stands the test of time and exists for years on end without dying.
Somethings throughout history have come and gone but are still remembered fondly like Furbys for example or beanie babies, but those because they did die out, are only remembered by those who experienced them first hand in their life time.
Take Pokemon for example though. This franchise was so big when it was established that I knew adults buying base set booster boxes to keep sealed because they saw the hype. I was born in 1992 and personally thought Digimon was a much cooler show at the time, but I did watch Pokemon and traded the cards and played the games back on GameBoy advance, the first console I ever owned. I was a part of the early days of Pokemon culture back when it was all so so much simpler and I've been a part of it ever since then. Pokemon not only was hyped in the 90s but continues to be hyped up by all generations almost 30 years later. If you consider the markets for instance, Pokemon in some ways has been more successful than Bitcoin because it has a longer market cycle that it has existed for and lasted through while retaining it's value and growing in value.

A meme should always grow through grass roots, memes can be vc funded if they want to be adopted by the masses. It goes against the ethos of turning the "every-man" into a millionaire by holding a few million tokens. The meme should be like a mind virus, unique, original, memorable, connected to pre-existing culture but warped, and re-calls things from culture that are cross generationally relevant (ex. Pokemon).

Combining all these things and having a comedic angle seems like it would be easy. Just take an image and slap some funny text on it. It really has to be so much more than that though. The image must inform the text and the both of them should be informed by the zeitgeist it is trying to create and establish.
So after all that rigmarole, I have a .gif image that I want to make viral. Of a frog with a lily pad on it's back. Similar to bulbusaur but not so close to get a cease and desist from Nintendo.
