We are pleased to announce the migration of OP Mainnet to the revolutionary Bedrock architecture—a major upgrade that delivers lower gas fees, increased throughput, and enhanced security for all users and applications across the Optimism ecosystem.
What's Changing? The upgrade to Bedrock incorporates years of lessons from running the world's most widely-used Ethereum Layer 2. This release is the cheapest, fastest, and most minimal codebase for an Ethereum-equivalent rollup ever built. Users and applications will enjoy dramatically reduced L1 data costs, improved withdrawal security, and future-proof protocol design—while remaining fully compatible with existing smart contracts and applications.
Who is affected? Everyday OP users will experience seamless service with no action required. Node operators, RPC providers (Alchemy, Ankr, Infura, Quicknode, Tenderly, Etherscan), and developers using automated deposit/withdrawal bridges should prepare their infrastructure using our technical documentation.
Begin by connecting your Ethereum wallet that contains your legacy OP tokens to the official migration portal. The portal supports all major Ethereum wallets including MetaMask, Ledger, Coinbase Wallet, and Trezor.
What you need:
A funded wallet holding legacy OP tokens
Gas fees in ETH for transaction costs (typically minimal)
Internet connection to a compatible Ethereum RPC endpoint
How to connect:
Visit the official OP migration interface
Click "Connect Wallet"
Select your wallet type from the available options
Approve the connection request on your wallet
Confirm that the connected address matches your token-holding account
Once your wallet is connected, the portal will automatically display your legacy OP token balance. Take a moment to review and verify this amount matches your records.
What you'll see:
Your connected wallet address (partially masked for privacy)
Your current legacy OP token balance
The equivalent amount of new v2 OP tokens you will receive (1:1 ratio)
Current ETH gas prices and estimated transaction costs
Migration deadline and any time-sensitive information
Important notes:
If your balance is zero or incorrect, ensure you're connected to the correct wallet and on the correct network (Ethereum Mainnet)
Multiple wallets? Repeat the migration process for each wallet holding legacy OP tokens
Balances may take a few moments to load due to blockchain network latency
After confirming your balance, you're ready to migrate. Click the "Migrate Tokens" button to begin the token swap process.
What happens next:
A transaction summary will appear showing:
Amount of legacy OP tokens being migrated
Amount of new v2 OP tokens you will receive (1:1 ratio)
Gas fees in ETH and USD
Total transaction cost
Review the transaction details carefully
Click "Confirm Migration" to proceed
Your wallet will prompt you to sign the transaction
Approve the transaction in your wallet interface
When you confirm the transaction, your wallet will display a confirmation screen. Sign the transaction using your wallet's security method (password, biometric, hardware device, etc.).
Transaction details you'll confirm:
Smart contract address receiving your legacy OP tokens
Smart contract address sending you new v2 OP tokens
Gas limit and gas price
Total transaction cost in ETH
Once signed, the transaction will be broadcast to the Ethereum network and will begin processing.
After confirming, you'll receive a transaction hash. Use this to monitor your migration on Etherscan or your wallet's activity log.
What to expect:
Pending (0-2 minutes): Transaction is queued in the network
Processing (2-10 minutes): Miners/validators are including your transaction
Confirmed: You've successfully received new v2 OP tokens at a 1:1 ratio
Transaction hash locations:
Migration portal dashboard
Your wallet's transaction history
Email confirmation (if provided)
Once the transaction confirms on the blockchain, your new v2 OP tokens will arrive in your wallet automatically. No additional steps are required.
Verification:
Open your wallet and look for "OP" or "Optimism" token
Your balance should equal your legacy OP amount (1:1 ratio)
You can now use, trade, or stake your v2 OP tokens
No hidden fees: The only cost is standard Ethereum gas fees
1:1 ratio: Every legacy OP token converts to exactly one v2 OP token
Non-custodial: You remain in control of your wallet and keys at all times
Reversible for errors: If a transaction fails, your legacy OP tokens remain in your wallet
Official only: Only use the migration portal at optimism—never visit unofficial sites claiming to offer migrations
Q: Is migration mandatory?
A: Yes. After the deadline, legacy OP tokens will no longer be usable. We strongly encourage early migration to avoid network congestion near the cutoff date.
Q: What is the migration deadline?
A: [Insert specific date]. Plan ahead to avoid high gas fees during peak migration periods.
Q: Can I lose my tokens during migration?
A: No. The migration contract is non-custodial—you always control your private keys. If a transaction fails, your legacy tokens remain in your wallet.
Q: How much will migration cost in gas fees?
A: Typically $20-100 USD depending on Ethereum network conditions. Check current gas prices before migrating.
Q: What if I miss the deadline?
A: Tokens migrated after the deadline may have reduced functionality. Migrate as soon as possible to ensure access to all v2 features.
Q: Where can I check my transaction?
A: Use your transaction hash on Etherscan.io to verify confirmation status.
After migration to the new v2 OP token architecture, users will enjoy:
Lower gas fees: Bedrock reduces L1 data costs dramatically
Faster transactions: Improved block times and throughput
Better security: Two-step withdrawal process protects bridged assets
Future-proof design: Compatible with multiple proof schemes including ZK proofs
Ecosystem strength: Enables new dApps and partnerships on Optimism

Great
Is this only for eth chain ???
