Had an amazing time at the LagosDevcon Meetup hosted by Ekoh Victor yesterday!
I met a lot of my brens from Base Africa, FBI Africa and the Onchain Dreamers Club.
The speakers spoke about different topics and I learnt a lot from it.
Here’s a summary of the key takeaways from the meetup:
Vitalik Buterin – Ethereum in 30 Minutes
We watched a 30-minute video of Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, talking about the Ethereum blockchain.
Watch it here - https://youtu.be/ei3tDRMjw6k?si=hXKy36AISSfgY8kQ
Adeola Adesina – What Are We Even Building?
He emphasized the importance of ownership:
'The opposite of ownership is slavery.'
🔹️Even while contributing , always build something of your own. Own something.
🔹️Think globally—study markets and research. The world belongs to those who research deeply, not just have ideas.
P.S. Did you know that Nigeria has 3 native blockchains? 🤔
David Pius
David shared his experience attending Devcon in Bangkok and discussed the permissionless nature of Ethereum:
🔹️Ethereum allows anyone to build.
🔹️There are countless opportunities and resources, just do your research.
🔹️If you can read and write, you can contribute.
🔹️Research deeply. This is the key to unlocking opportunities.
Femi Adegolu – Expanding the Builders' Ecosystem in Africa
He emphasized on the importance of collaboration as a builder.
There are 4 categories of builders:
🔹️Developers and Engineers – Experts who code the solutions that drives progress.
🔹️Designers and Creators – Those that bring ideas to life using creative visuals and tools.
🔹️Innovators and Entrepreneurs – Those that disrupt industries with new ideas & innovations.
🔹️ Communities and ecosystem enablers that connect and empower builders across Africa.
Collaboration over competition: Work with others to succeed.
To foster the building ecosystem in Africa, we should: Invest in talent, Create funding pathways and support underrepresented groups.
As a Builder, focus on offering value, getting seen, and getting heard.
Njoku Emmanuel - Building a Great Product.
He shared his approach to building products:
🔹️Build something interesting and unique that solves real problems.
🔹️Build something so good it is hard to ignore.
🔹️Research: Stimulate your brain to think beyond what you already know. Take it out of its comfort zone. Dive deep into research.
🔹️As a builder, you should always read, study, and research.
Overall, it was an eventful meetup. Special thanks to the organizers and community partners for bringing this to life.
